Android will emerge as the core platform for gaming, according to Matt Beavis, head of PR & sponsorship at Sony Ericsson. The company’s goal is “for Xperia Play to deliver the ultimate smartphone gaming experience for consumer audiences”. “As the world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone, our goal is for Xperia Play to deliver the ultimate smartphone gaming experience for consumer audiences, including casual and enthusiastic gamers,” Beavis told Nowgamer. “We believe that Android will emerge as the core platform for gaming and is optimised for multi-media content,” he added....

First, let me say this: You have to play Beyond Good & Evil. It’s as simple as that. It is one of the best games to have ever been released for any kind of gaming platform. Why? The gameplay was simple, yet effective; the graphics were very good (during that console cycle); and most importantly, the story was amazing. And now, after the initial announcement of Beyond Good & Evil 2 (which may just be canceled) back in 2008, Ubisoft will be porting the original game in amazing HD and making it available for download through Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network....

Gran Turismo 5 is almost here. Just today, the game’s worldwide release date was revealed to the public. Shortly after that, Polyphony Digital saw fit to lift the curtain on the 1,031 cars that will be included in the game. The only major news left to share with the public is Gran Turismo 5’s selection of tracks, and we’ve got it for you right here, right now. Seventy-one total tracks have made their way into the finished game, split between Gran Turismo Originals and such real world circuits as Daytona, Suzuka, and the Top Gear Test Track....

Every now and again the main playable character needs a little tweaking. Sometimes it’s done as a result of a sizeable backlash to a character redesign (see Infamous 2) and other times it is in order to add more points to the believability of the game. Such is the case with The Last Guardian, the highly anticipated moving painting created by the genuine artists over at Team ICO. In an interview with PSM3, Team ICO head Fumito Ueda said that he originally wanted the grace an elegance of a female main character to offset the brutish strength of the bird/dog creature in the game....

February’s free PlayStation Plus games are now available to download for all players subscribed to the service. Luckily for players, Sony is currently offering a bonus PSVR title for this month’s roster of free PS Plus games, which hopefully, becomes a regular thing. The full list of free games is as follows: BioShock: The Collection, The Sims 4, and Firewall: Zero Hour, and they are available starting today until March 2....

We’re not video game developers here or anything, but we think RPG games would be very difficult to make. They’re expansive, the gameplay is intricate and complex, and the worlds are often highly interactive and liable to change. It’s no surprise, then, that so many RPGs have been cancelled over the years. Whether through creative differences or budget constraints, dozens of RPGs have failed to see the light of day. And it’s a shame, because some of them sounded really, really fun....

Spider-Man PS4 is one amazing game. It’s sold astronomically well and has one of the best review scores of the last couple of years. The game was made by Insomniac Studios, who have made other games such as Sunset Overdrive and Rachet & Clank. Insomniac was approached by Marvel and were asked which Marvel superhero they wanted to make a game out of. Apparently, they almost immediately responded with Spider-Man....

The 2010 Spike Video Game Awards have just ended (check out our live blog recap) and it was an epic year for premiere trailers but a questionable year for on-stage entertainment. The consensus from the online community points to lack of excitement or actual comedic comedy from some of the presenters this year but it was made up for in the quality of video game unveils and teaser trailers. With Neil Patrick Harris doing the best he could with the material he had with a rather quiet audience, Guillermo del Toro becoming the best part of the award ceremony and an incredible live performance of “Far Away” by José González, the night was ripe with world premiere trailers and a plethora of awards handed out....

Let’s be honest, if a player solely stuck to the main quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, they would have their hands filled with an incredibly long series of arguably difficult and arduous tasks. Alan Rickman, in the space of a few years, committed to screen two of the finest movie villain performances of modern blockbuster cinema. It would be fair to say that both acted as a template of sorts for the standard British foe that would permeate big Hollywood movies for the decade that followed, and Rickman steered clear of villainous roles thereafter. Fortnite players who think they’re hot shots have been presented an opportunity to pocket some meaningful funds in exchange for clearing this creator’s deathrun map with the best time. Deathruns are becoming quite popular among Fortnite players, and are incredibly challenging because the entire map is designed to kill you as quickly as possible. The maps - formed in creative mode - actually make creators good money as players have to enter a code that sees five percent of their in-game purchases go towards the independent creator....

Most post-apocalyptic scenarios see the fall of government pretty early on. In Fallout 3, the government was very much a shadow of its former self and with Fallout: New Vegas, it’s all but gone, run by various factions that the player may choose to align himself with. Previous development diaries have talked about weaponry and sound design and the game’s art style, but this one actually deals with more of the world itself....

Well, that didn’t take long. Only a few days after Mass Effect 3 was first revealed at the Spike Video Game Awards with a holiday 2011 release date, the official launch day seems to have been confirmed. BioWare had previously given some good news to PS3 owners when they announced that they wouldn’t have to wait an extra year the third time around. Now calendars can be marked, as GameStop has apparently revealed that Mass Effect 3 will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on November 8, 2011....

It may be a bit morbid, but there are few things that NASCAR fans enjoy more than a good wreck. Assuming all the drivers walkaway unscathed, that is. NASCAR The Game 2011 is well aware of the fact, and is bringing a realistic approach to all damage in the game, both monumental and minor. Fans may not be that interested in seeing their cars destroyed after they’ve applied their own unique paint scheme though, so the game won’t be without some tough decisions....
