A new batch of Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Collector’s Editions will be available to pre-order from next Monday, May 23, Square Enix has announced, but they are not guaranteed to be delivered in time for launch this September.
In an update posted on the Square Enix blog, the publisher confirmed that it had been able to produce 10,000 more units of the collector’s edition, bringing the total worldwide count to 40,000, and that it was “trying our absolute hardest” to get them ready for the game’s launch on September 30.
“We have only been able to produce 10,000 more [Ultimate Collector’s Editions] due to the time it takes to create each individual Noctis Play Arts Kai figure because they are so detailed, and to confirm, this is the final batch of UCEs we will produce,” the publisher said.
“We cannot guarantee that this new batch of 10,000 UCEs will arrive on time for the launch of Final Fantasy XV on 30th of September 2016. But rest assured we are trying our absolute hardest to get them to fans in time. We will of course provide updates on this closer to the time of release as we know how important it is for you guys to have the game as early as possible.”
European fans (excluding those in France) will be able to pre-order a copy from the Square Enix Store on a first-come, first-served basis from 10am BST next Monday. Only one Ultimate Collector’s Edition can be pre-ordered per customer.
The Ultimate Collector’s Edition quickly sold out when it first went on sale in April, leading to units being sold on eBay for £500, significantly higher than the £189.99 RRP. The game’s director Hajime Tabata later said that the publisher would be dealing with scalpers “severely”.
Final Fantasy XV launches on PS4 and Xbox One on September 30.
