With Discover University now out of the way for The Sims 4, the big question on everyone’s mind is what we’re most likely to see next. While you might argue all major expansions seen in the past are already out of the way, there’s still a ton of features and brand new things the franchise could introduce at this stage.

From adding more exotic animals that we could potentially visit during safari trips to finally bringing in cars and other vehicles, the possibilities are still endless. With that, we’re introducing 10 ideas for potential expansion ideas that we haven’t quite seen in the past, but that could become a thing in the future.

10 Vehicles

In real life, we have cars, bikes, and airplanes that we can ride, but in The Sims, we haven’t really had the chance to experience all the possible vehicles to their fullest degree.

While cars have made appearances in the past, they still remain absent from The Sims 4, along with other vehicles like motorbikes. We could also introduce different kinds of boats, airplanes, trams, and trains that our Sims could take around to get from one place to another, although that would likely require a more open-world experience.

9 Farming

With tons of life and farming simulations like Minecraft and Stardew Valley becoming so popular these days, it’s a surprise that The Sims hasn’t integrated this more into their game, considering how much people seem to like tending to their farms and gardens. While gardening is certainly a skill, perhaps we could have farming vehicles and machines as an addition.

On top of this, an expansion about a simple life could introduce farm animals like horses, cows, pigs and chickens, with tons of new farming-related activities and beautiful rustic build and CAS mode items. Make it happen, EA.

8 Schools

Sure, we got Discover University which lets us go to class but what about high school, middle school, and kindergarten? What about nannies and daycare?

There’s so much gameplay potential here that remains unexplored. With kids still a very boring part of gameplay, even with the Parenthood pack, an expansion that lets us follow our kids and teens to school could introduce new after school activities, school-related interactions like playground games and social interactions like standing up against a class bully or cheating on a test.

7 Historical

We’ve seen historical themes explored effectively in The Sims 3 Medieval, but the game was very different from a typical game of the franchise so we can’t really count it as a true Sims game.

A historical pack could introduce a wide variety of build, buy and CAS items from different times, as well as activities like a traditional fair, medieval community lifestyle and even the possibility of having actual royalty in your game.

New interactions like holding feasts and royal gatherings inspired by the Royalty mod could be interesting to play around with.

6 Superheroes

The Sims franchise is all about simulating real life, but with a hint of supernatural and fantasy. While we’ve seen witches, vampires and aliens regularly, we haven’t really seen villains and superheroes. Surely even the neighborhoods in The Sims have heroes that survey the streets for burglars and supervillains?

This expansion could bring back burglars and thieves, and introduce the “hero” and “villain” traits, as well as special powers. Plus, it would be fun to have a wide variety of spandex suits to choose from to create your perfect superhero or villain.

5 Families

In the past, packs like Generations, Free Time and games like Life Story increased our immersion into the game by providing tools to create the perfect family with a narrative. Memories, hobbies, and stories bring more customization into the game, which is what The Sims desperately needs right now.

An expansion that would focus on family building, with the introduction of funerals and cemeteries, heirlooms and inheritance fights, as well as more interactions with grandparents, could truly spice up the legacy challenge of just about any Simmer.

4 Elderly Life

Speaking of grandparents, there’s one age group that the developers have been consistently ignoring since the creation of the franchise: elders. While it might not sound like the most compelling group the play with, we’d argue it’s only a matter of lack of content.

An expansion focused on elderly life could introduce retirement retreats, elderly-friendly activities like crocheting, bingo, and croquet, as well as a new form of gathering like an afternoon tea party. It would add more color to the lives of elderly Sims. Not to mention, we desperately need more CAS items for elders that actually look decent.

3 City Adventure

We’ve seen many different versions of vacations in the past games, from tropical islands to snowy mountains. This is a territory that the developers should explore further. Since we have Jungle Adventure, perhaps the next pack should introduce a kind of “City Adventure”, which lets you take your Sims to a city for a holiday.

Similar to Champs Les Sims, the expansion could introduce new foods, architectural styles, and new activities like taking a riverboat, sightseeing, nectar making, and cheese making. The possibilities are endless, depending on the theme of the location.

2 Space

Space and aliens are a highly neglected aspect of The Sims 4. Once we actually travel to Sixam, there isn’t much there for us to see or do, aside from collecting plants.

We could have an expansion focused on space traveling, with building your own rocket and space ship, a few more alien planets and species we could visit, as well as tons of futuristic build and buy mode items to create your own exoplanet Sims colony far away from Earth. New activities could include playing in zero gravity, learning about alien species and gardening in hydroponics farms.

1 Amusement Parks

Perhaps the most exciting addition would be theme parks. The last time we had actual proper rides in The Sims franchise was back in the first game when Makin’ Magic came out and introduced scary rides and roller coasters.

Now, we could include an amusement park with hotels as something you could build and run, or alternatively visit with your family. The expansion would also include water parks, and tons of customization to create your perfect amusement park for your Sims to spend a day at.
