The next-generation Xbox console is going to be the most powerful console ever made. Codenamed “Project Scarlett,” the next-generation Xbox will support ray-tracing technology and 8K resolution. According to Microsoft, the console will be even more powerful than PlayStation 5. With all the power, the console is going to rely on its exclusives to draw players.

We saw incredible exclusives on the Xbox One, but it was lackluster in comparison to the PlayStation 4. Microsoft is going to have to gear up if they want to win this new round of the console wars. The following sequels could make or break the next-generation Xbox. These are 10 game sequels we absolutely need on next-gen Xbox.

10 Age of Empires 4

Recently announced at XO19, Age of Empires 4 is the real-time strategy sequel fans are craving for. Expected to release in 2020, Age of Empires 4 has been confirmed for the PC. However, we don’t know if or when it will be ported to consoles.

We know with certainty that the game will eventually come to the Xbox One, but it hasn’t been confirmed if there will be a Project Scarlett release. It’s a game that is pushing the envelope with breathtaking visuals. Please, Microsoft, bring Age of Empires 4 to the next-generation Xbox.

9 Halo Infinite

It’s already been announced that Halo Infinite will be a Project Scarlett launch title. When Project Scarlett releases is still up for speculation as no specific date has been mentioned. Halo Infinite will likely launch alongside Project Scarlett sometime in Winter 2020.

Using 343 Industries’ new Slipspace Engine, Halo Infinite will offer unprecedented levels of realism. It will be included with Xbox Game Pass—like many of Xbox’s first-party exclusives. This is a game that has to come to Project Scarlett.

8 Ashen 2

Ashen is a Dark Souls-like game that released in 2018 as an exclusive for the Xbox One. From the creators at New Zealand studio A44, Ashen has many of the traditional role-playing elements you would find in a Dark Souls game. Sure, the scale of the game is not nearly as impressive as Dark Souls. It is, however, a quaint game that is worth playing for fans of the genre.

Ashen is expected to release for consoles such as the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in December 2019. Could A44 be gearing up to announce a sequel? A brutal and irksome game, Ashen is a must-play for the challenge.

7 Ori and the Blind Forest 3

Ori and the Blind Forest is an award-winning platformer that released as an exclusive for the Xbox One. The world of Ori and the Blind Forest is set in a majestic forest that becomes more entrancing as the player progresses. It’s a Metroidvania in the sense that it takes after games like Metroid and Castlevania.

6 Forza Horizon 5

One of Xbox Game Studios’ most bold and ambitious subsidiaries, Turn 10 Studios, turned Forza Motorsport into an open-world game. The result, Forza Horizon, is possibly the most immersive racing game we’ve ever seen. As a game that’s the top of its class, Forza Horizon 4 introduces changing seasons. The game is strikingly gorgeous.

Please Turn 10 Studios, turn Forza Horizon into a Project Scarlett exclusive. Looking back, Project Gotham Racing concluded on the Xbox 360. Xbox decided a new franchise would take Project Gotham Racing’s Place. It’s not out of the question for a new racing franchise to hit the next-generation Xbox.

5 Sea of Thieves 2

An aquatic adventure, Sea of Thieves is a pirate game like none another. Sea of Thieves’ expansive world, combined with all the yo-ho jolly ole fun you can imagine, is a pirate video game at its best. From developer Rare, Sea of Thieves provides arcadey but fun gameplay. It’s by no means realistic but is arguably the best attempt at a pirate game.

A sequel to Sea of Thieves for Project Scarlett would be too awesome. Rare’s commitment to adding Sea of Thieves content shows that they are highly invested in the IP and may make a sequel.

4 Gears 6

Gears 5 was a critical success, and it’s broad player base is evidence of this. As reported by ign.com, “The Coalition’s studio head Rod Fergusson revealed how Gears 5’s robot support character Jack was inspired by the Nintendo Wii platformer.” Taking after one of the greatest games of all time, Gears 5 is an Xbox One masterpiece.

Judging by the way Gears 5 was left, it’s all but certain that a Gears 6 will be created. Since Gears 5 released recently, there’s a strong chance that Gears 6 will be a Project Scarlett title.

3 Forza Motorsport 8

Forza Horizon may be the open-world racing game of our dreams, but Forza Motorsport is also an exceptional track-based racing game. It doesn’t provide the freedom of Forza Horizon, but what it does it does splendidly.

Forza Motorsport 7 is a game with an extensive collection of vehicles. It’s one of the most immersive racing games of all time. Project Scarlett would benefit from having a reboot of the franchise—as long as its made by Turn 10 Studios.

2 Dead Rising 5

Compared to other games in the series, Dead Rising 4 was a lackluster release. Dead Rising 3 is the debatably the best example of a Dead Rising game done right. Hopefully, Microsoft doesn’t give up on one of their best exclusives and pushes Dead Rising 5 for Project Scarlett.

As depicted in the picture above, Dead Rising is a third-person zombie survival game. It’s story-based missions keep the game fresh and enticing. Project Scarlett would be a phenomenal platform for Dead Rising 5.

1 Fable

Xbox One players may not be familiar with the Fable series. Fable is an action-role-playing series that released for the original Xbox and the Xbox 360. Fable Legends is a canceled Fable game that was canceled in 2016. The cooperative adventure game did not make the jump to Xbox One.

There’s little preventing Microsoft from reviving the Fable series for the next-generation Xbox. The announcement of a new Fable sequel game would be too good to be true.
