Ever since The Last of Us was released, people have wanted to know what’s next for the protagonists. Even though the game had a really satisfying ending, it also left us with a lot of questions. Did Ellie believe Joel in that last scene? Are they free of the Fireflies forever? Will there ever be a cure? Finally, these questions are going to be answered with a sequel.

The Last of Us 2 was announced and has had multiple trailers released to help build hype. It shows what our characters are doing now and what the world has come to in the years since the first game’s ending. Ellie appears stronger than ever and—surprise!—Joel is going to make an appearance. The game has fans more excited than ever about the sequel’s release. But what are we supposed to do in the meantime?

10 Alan Wake

Alan Wake is a horror game that was released in 2010 and is currently playable on Xbox 360 and PC. If you were into the scarier aspects of The Last of Us, this horror game is definitely one that needs to be on your radar. Even though it was released close to a decade ago, it definitely holds up as one of the best horror games in recent memory.

The title character in this game is a novelist who writes really popular psychological thrillers. Yet, he’s struggling with writer’s block and just can’t seem to produce his next masterpiece. He and his wife take a trip to get away from it all for a little while. Unfortunately, things go horribly wrong and his stories seem to start coming to life around him.

9 Detroit: Become Human

Although The Last of Us could definitely be classified as a simple survival horror game, anyone who has experienced this game will know that it’s so much more than that. A huge part of the game focuses on the relationship between our two protagonists, Ellie and Joel. The two of them form a really close familial bond throughout the course of the game as they try to survive against the enemies they encounter.

If you’re looking for another game where bonding between the characters is a huge focus of the plot, check out Detroit: Become Human. It’s a game about a future society where androids are available for purchase. You play as three different androids as they fight to win freedom from humans.

8 Far Cry 5

The trailers for The Last of Us 2 have given us some details on what the game has in store for us, but, let’s be honest, we still don’t know a lot. But, one thing we do know is that there seems to be a strange society that has taken over. A lot of the trailers focused on human enemies rather than zombies.

Far Cry 5 is a game that’s set in the fictional area of Hope County, Montana. In order to get you geared up to battle against human enemies and a potential cult-like group, head out to Montana and win the land back from Joseph Seed and his followers. Be careful with the choice you make in the end!

7 The Last Of Us

If you’re excited for The Last of Us 2, you’ve likely already played The Last of Us. This game has been out for a few years and was massively popular when it was released, so it’s one that not many gamers have managed to avoid experiencing—whether it’s playing or watching a playthrough of it by their favorite streamer.

But, even if you’ve already completed this game and the Left Behind DLC, it’s worth playing again. Playing it again will be a good way to get your fix for some Ellie and Joel adventures and help you to refresh your memory on everything that happened in the first game. Just bring your tissues for that first scene with Sarah!

6 Dying Light

A huge focus of The Last of Us was definitely the zombies. These unique creatures have been taken over by a fungus in their brain that turns them from Runners to Stalkers to Clickers and eventually Bloaters as time goes on. All of these zombies are terrifying, but a fun challenge for people that like zombie games.

If you’re someone that’s into fighting against the undead, there are a ton of games that will help you get your zombie-fighting fix. Dying Light is one game that allows the player to battle against both zombies and humans as they try to fight back against the infection that’s ravaging the fictional city of Harran. Did we mention this game has a sequel coming out in 2020, just like The Last of Us 2?

5 Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was released in 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This game is the seventh main game in the longstanding survival horror series. This game was loved by critics and Resident Evil fans alike for the fact that it goes back to the series’ roots. Instead of being an action-adventure based game like some of the recent games in the series, this game is focused on everything truly horrifying.

The game is set in Lousiana where the main character, Ethan, has gone looking for his wife who has been missing for three years. There, Ethan discovers that there’s something strange going on. If you were intrigued by the unique zombies in The Last of Us, the Molded in this game will definitely keep you entertained.

3 Until Dawn

If you’re someone that really loves a more non-traditional style of game, check out Until Dawn. After it was released, this PlayStation 4 exclusive became a favorite among gamers and critics alike for its storyline, unique choice-based gameplay, and characters.

This game is a pretty creepy horror game that really focuses on the way that the choices the player makes can change the way the game goes. If you neglect to look through a certain room or you don’t lock a certain door, it may spell out complete disaster for one of the characters you control.

2 A Plague Tale: Innocence

A Plague Tale: Innocence was released in 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you’re a person that was really into the stealth aspects of The Last of Us, you’ll definitely be someone who excels at this survival horror game. Staying quiet to avoid the Clickers was really important for Joel and Ellie, but it was definitely tough at times.

This game is set in the 14th century and has a heavy focus on stealth in the same way that The Last of Us did. Although fighting enemies can be a ton of fun, this game puts a huge emphasis on trying to be sneaky and avoid dealing with them at all.

1 State Of Decay 2
