Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order has come out as a fan favorite. With 36 playable characters and an immense amount of supporting characters, villains, and new characters, the game has outdone itself with content. It wouldn’t be a Marvel game without its many cameo appearances and hidden secrets. There are some secrets that even the biggest fans were unable to find. Since there are so many secrets that fans can unlock, sometimes this can seem overwhelming.
There are many Easter eggs that are much harder to spot and even the biggest fans don’t always notice them. Here’s some to look for!
10 Isotope-8
Power is what most villains want to have. They want the power to defeat the good guys and conquer the world, or the known universe. That is why Isotope-8 has been such a mystery since it was first introduced. In MUA3 it is a booster that increases team’s stats a great deal.
While many players overlooked the content, it does have a place in the universe. No mainstream movies, comics, or big tiles include it, and it’s only found in mobile games, where it was used consistently. While this is not the biggest Easter egg, only true fans would have been able to recognize the item since it has been floating around the game.
9 Quirky Powers
Most fans can appreciate original comics. Many iconic heroes were created in the ‘90s and we can’t say we’re disappointed. These heroes are some of the most legendary and they have original suits. It also isn’t a surprise when these heroes have names for their powers. Some names are literal, while others caught die-hard fans by surprise.
One of those attacks was Bast’s Fury, used by Black Panther. Bast was a goddess worshiped by his tribe, and he isn’t the only one. It also goes to show that many fans may not have noticed a few members of the X-Men who are wearing their ‘90s costumes.
8 Canada
When Deadpool is around, fans can expect the fourth wall to be broken. It didn’t come as a surprise that the game has him as a character. But, only true fans will discover some of his hilarious gags.
While Rocket Raccoon writes the character records, where all their information is stored, Deadpool manages to take advantage of that ability to insert his own monologue. He mentions a series of topics and among them is the fact that he is “fluent in Canadian.” This may go unnoticed by some fans, but the running gag is that Ryan Reynolds is Canadian.
7 Voice Actors
If you are a diehard fan of Marvel games, it will come as a surprise that many recurring voice actors are part of this game, too. These voices are the ones fans have been hearing for decades. And while some may be more recent, that doesn’t subtract from the excitement.
Many of these sound familiar and many fans didn’t even notice that they were the same people. Some of these voice actors are Nolan North as Deadpool, just like in his game. Brian Bloom who has voiced Cap in cartoons and games, and many more. Be on the lookout for these voice actors.
6 Mutants and Inhumans
The Mutants and Inhumans have sometimes been at odds with each other. The teams have battled during the X-Men vs. Inhumans crossover. They, however, are painted as much more friendly characters during MUA3. Both teams are seen collaborating on a number of occasions. The one that stands out the most is the reference to Beast’s laboratory on the moon.
During the crossover, he temporarily worked with the Inhumans to solve the conflict in a more peaceful way. This seemed to earn him a permanent place to go when in need of research. Ironically, the Inhumans and X-Men make great team combinations.
5 The Crew
Unless you really looked for them, it’s very unlikely you will have come across a very recent comic of this team. The Crew was a series of people who would defend social and racial rights. They were people of all colors under their masks making them one of the most underrepresented types of teams.
Although they did include Storm and Black Panther for a while, they never really caught the player’s attention. That’s why they never got an entire series themselves. This entire team does not make an appearance in the game, but with a team consisting of Black Panther, Luke Cage, Falcon, and Storm, you will gain an extreme boost and a pretty nice reunion.
4 Secret identities
Unlike their own individual games, Ultimate Alliance 3 has no real space for the characters to be just their ordinary selves. These characters are constantly suited up and ready for combat whenever a player chooses them. It doesn’t come as a surprise since the game isn’t explicitly about their own stories or backgrounds.
But Marvel did manage to throw in a few lines of dialogue for some characters and the level of detail is pretty astonishing. There are lines delivered throughout that reference the character’s lives like the Daredevil’s “Case Closed,” or Night Crawler’s “Prepare Yourselves.” True fans may have caught on to it but many didn’t as the lines are delivered very quickly.
3 Ultron
Most people don’t ever expect to see Ultron again. After being the main villain in Avengers: Age of Ultron, he ended the movie in utter defeat. His legacy continues in stage four of Ultimate Alliance 3 where you have to take back Avengers Tower from the evil being. Along the way, The Wasp comes in and reveals the relationship she has with Ultron, who is the creation of her ex-husband.
This reference is from the comics where her story with him is explained. Later, Thor joins the team and references Avengers #19 and #22 where Ultron is spoken about.
2 Defenders (not) live!
This might come as a shock to some, but Defenders aren’t really live. They have since been canceled by Netflix and will most likely never return since the joint collaboration between Disney and Netflix has come to a close.
But Ultimate Alliance 3 has made one of the teams the Defenders. This team has Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Iron Fist. Fans will catch this line in the Shadowland Stage, “I do my best fighting in alleyways.”
1 Superior Spider-Man
For many, the relationship between Doctor Octopus and Spider-Man is a bittersweet one. In Ultimate Alliance 3, this is far from the case. The doctor maintains a bitter rivalry with the web-slinger, where he feels the need to refer to himself as his “superior.”
Many fans might have overlooked the reason for this, which is explained in a previous installment in the comic series. When Doc Oct spent time as the Superior Spider-Man, he set out to be a much better Spider-Man than Peter Parker ever could have. This comes at a price though, and eventually, Peter regains his title as Spider-Man.
