While the whole idea of video games is for people to purchase the games and play them, anytime something becomes a hit it is inevitable that merchandise will be created. Whether it be clothes, kitchenware, or toys, there has been plenty of items created over the years.

While picking up a Pikachu cuddly toy, or a Fortnite bus are great ideas of toys that have been created in the past. There have been some dreadful toys created as well.

Whether it be because they look incredibly cheap, that they make no sense, or because nobody wants them, some gaming toys are just clear cash grabs. So, before you make any last-minute Christmas buys, we will rank the 10 worst video game toys of all time.

10 Crash Plush

Crash Bandicoot is a legendary video game series that has been massively popular for long over a decade. Because of that, it’s no surprise that plenty of merchandise has been created for the character.

Creating a plush figure for him makes sense, as he’s a very loveable character that is the lead name for a family video game. However, just making a plush figure doesn’t make it loveable and huggable instantly.

Just take a look at the image of those characters. They don’t look like something that you would want to cuddle as you fall to sleep, it instead looks nightmare-inducing, with the plush figures being absolutely awful.

9 Pocket Monica

Everyone knows the board game, Frustration. It’s a classic game that people love and have played for decades and throughout history, there have certainly been a few knock-off versions of it.

One of those just so happened to be focused on Pokémon. You’d think that the combination of those two popular franchises would lead to something fantastic, right?

Wrong. The board game did not sell well and was a complete rip-off, without making and slight changes or additions outside of the design. The game also came with one less piece for each player due to a design fault, making it even more pointless.

8 Trolls Crossover

Just look at them. Why would anybody want these? Cross-brand toys always seem like an appealing idea, because it brings two different popular brands together for one toy, but they rarely work.

This is an example of one that does not. Trolls and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just don’t belong together, and that is clear from this toy. People want one or the other, not a strange mismatched combination of them both thrown into one.

7 Spyro Plush

Another perfect example of how crossovers do not always work out the way people think they might is this plush toy of Spyro. Normally, a cute and loveable dragon, but when mixed with Skylanders looks sort of demented.

Would you want to be cuddling with this toy next to you in bed? Much like the Crash plush earlier in the list, this is an example of how even the simplest of toys, a plush, can easily be made terrible.

This was a great idea and had the toy looked cute, then there’s no doubt it would have sold well, but instead it is simply awful.

6 Zelda Wind-Up

So it isn’t just plushes that can make our favorite characters look absolutely insane then. This is a Zelda wind-up toy that looks absolutely nothing like the iconic Nintendo character.

Not even the drawings on the box look good, which makes this entire thing pointless. To make matters worse, Nintendo actually licensed this product and allowed it to be made.

That’s right, it isn’t just some knock-off which isn’t allowed to look exactly like the character. Why anyone would want to own this is hard to understand.

5 Monopoly

Monopoly is always quick to partner up with anything that is popular. Whether it be a movie or a video game there are tons of different versions of the game, and now there is also a Fortnite option.

While this is obviously created because of Fortnite’s popularity, it is hard to imagine that people who love Fortnite also want to play this board game. On top of that, the two properties just don’t mesh.

As you can see by the image, the game has had to be made far smaller to make it work and doesn’t even feature metal characters, just cheap cardboard cutout options. Clearly made in a rush and on the cheap to make as much money as possible, this just isn’t a great game.

4 McDonald’s Toys

The classic McDonald’s toys, something that has become a staple of fast food franchises all around the world. You buy a Happy Meal and you get a toy, and most of the time, they’re absolutely awful.

McDonald’s likes to partner up with various pop culture themes in order to attract customers, and that means video games get brought in. While they have gotten much better than they were, McDonald’s has produced some horrendous toys in the past.

Most of the time, these toys just look terrible, and they normally don’t work very well either, which makes it all worse. At least you get some food though.

3 Brickheadz

The Super Mario franchise has had tons of merchandise and toys created for it throughout history, and for the most part, it has actually been very good. However, these LOZ Blockheadz are not a good example of that.

While things such as Funko Pops and other collectibles that can be displayed have become very popular lately, there is something about these that just looks very strange.

Toys like this need to look cute and appealing, and they simply don’t have that element. Kids might want a Lego Mario set to build and destroy, not one to put on a display.

2 Lego Minecraft

There’s nothing specifically wrong with this toy, it just makes absolutely zero sense. Lego is a juggernaut of a toy business and has created some amazing toys from a variety of video games.

Picking up on Minecraft’s insane popularity makes a lot of sense. The video game is hot right now and has had a real surge in popularity, so striking while the iron is hot to make a lot of money.

However, Lego and Minecraft are essentially rivals. Minecraft in its pure sense before the video game launch is incredibly similar to Lego. So if you wanted to physically be building that world, why would you not just get Minecraft toys?

1 Knock-Off Consoles

When it comes to toys, there is absolutely nothing worse than a knock-off game consoles. Whether it be a toy version or a literal knock-off that someone is trying to pass off as a legitimate option.

These ideas never go down well. They don’t look good, and never offer any games that people actually want, making them a total waste of money. While consoles can be expensive, saving up and getting the real deal is a far better option.
