You should never judge a book by its cover, especially a book that is also a very large monster that is capable of a large amount of destruction at the drop of a hat. Pokémon is full of incredibly powerful creatures, along with others that while might seem powerful, are completely lacking. Today, we’re going to look at ten examples of Pokémon that aren’t nearly as powerful as they look. Let’s get right into the list with everyone’s least favorite slow starting boy.
10 Regigigas
While none of the Regis are particularly good, their trio master is actually the worst of them all. This is solely due to Regigigas’s horrible exclusive ability, Slow Start. While Regigas has great stats all around, its ability halves its attack and speed every single time that it switches in. Every time. Even doing it the first time that Regigigas is in battle sounds pretty awful, but every time? Besides the fact that Regigigas is absolutely hopeless in battle… it’s kind of ugly. Is that really relevant to what we’re talking about right now? Well, no, but let’s bring it up anyway.
9 Slaking
Fellow member of the bad ability club, we have Slaking. An excellent Pokémon with absolutely monstrous stats, Slaking’s Truant ability prevents it from using a move every other turn, and that’s just about the worst thing of all time ever. That is such a horrible ability that it is kind of shocking. Honestly though, look at Slaking. That pose, that face. It does not care in the slightest that it is a horrible Pokémon, because it had no interest in attacking to begin with. A king, honestly. You might be trash all around, but we stan.
8 Magmortar
Magmortar is one mess of a Pokémon. Look at this poor thing. Despite its somewhat threatening (and also hilarious somehow) appearance, it’s not one of the most competitively strong Pokémon out there. While it does have some pretty strong attack power, it doesn’t have the defenses to match.
Magmortar is relatively frail, and doesn’t have all that many strengths typing-wise. Marmortar certainly is not the worst Pokémon on this list, but it certainly isn’t one of the most powerful either.
7 Articuno
Unfortunately for Articuno, it is the worst of the legendary birds. Articuno’s stats are relatively fine all around. They aren’t doing anything great, or anything awful. Articuno starts to sink when you consider its dual ice/flying typing, which is doing it absolutely no favors. Ice-type Pokémon always have issues to deal with, and Articuno’s massive weakness to Steal Rock doesn’t help it at all. Add this in with its middling stats and somewhat bad speed, and you’ve just got a Pokémon that is easy to take out before it can do anything of note. Well, you tried… kind of.
6 Drampa
Drampa is an absolute king that will burn down the house of anyone that makes its human children friends sad and that’s just a lot to take in wow. However, when he isn’t victimizing children, he is doing badly in battle. Drampa has one of the slowest speed stats in the entire series, has a not so great normal and dragon dual-typing, and besides a good special attack, is pretty poor everywhere else. You simply cannot be out here attacking children while you’re this pitful. That is just not how this works.
5 Ursaring
Ursaring is not a good Pokémon for mostly the same reasons as Drampa, besides the burny housey downey thingy. Ursaring has one good stat in the form of his attack. Other than that, he is relatively poor. Its stats leave a lot to be desired, that’s for sure, but it also has a pretty bad movepool. There just isn’t much reason to use Ursaring over other Pokémon, despite how intimidating he usually looks. Not the above picture, though. He just looks disgruntled for some reason.
4 Cofagrigus
Oh. Oh wow. That is just horrible, okay. With a look like that, you’d think that Cofagrigus would be absolutely devastating in battle. Alexa play “No” by Meghan Trainor.
Cofagrigus is pretty not good all around. The thing is, it just kind of isn’t really strong enough to do anything before it can get taken out. Cofagrigus has okay special attack and really solid defense, but is lacking in most other places. If Cofagrigus can survive long enough to set up, it’s in the clear. Unfortunately, though, that isn’t going to be happening with those stats.
3 Tyrantrum
Tyrantrum is just a massive dinosaur that looks like it’s kind of mad at you for something you did, so of course, it looks like it can make a killing in battle. Making a killing Tyrantrum shall not be doing, though. If it does get anything done, it won’t be holding that momentum for long. Tyrantrum is a glass cannon with a low speed, which is just… not something that you want to be. If you can’t attack before you’re taken out, then you’re not worth it. Unfortunately, that is Tyrantrum’s case.
2 Crabominable
You might be surprised to hear that a Pokémon on this list is bad. Well, it is. Giant white crab Crabominable leaves a bit to be desired. It’s the same old deal though. It has completely lopsided stats in the form of some great attack and not much else. Its fighting/ice dual-typing is also too situational to do anything necessary, making this an all-around not great Pokémon.
1 Golisopod
Golisipod looks like a pretty terrifying bug-type Pokémon, and it actually isn’t the worst creature on this list. However, its ability, Emergency Exit, immediately switches it out of battle once it reaches less than half of its full health. This can cause problems in battle, especially if your opponent has set up a hazard like Stealth Rock. While Golisopod can certainly be used a lot more effectively than pretty much the rest of this list, it still isn’t one of the best Pokémon around.
