Star Wars is the longest-running film license in videogames. The first game Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was released 37 years ago on the Atari 2600. However, it wasn’t well-received and there wouldn’t be another game in the franchise for another decade until Super Star Wars on the SNES.
Just like the films, there has been a lot of great games in the franchise but there are a lot of terrible games too. Most of these games have been easily approachable like the Lego Star Wars Trilogy or the action-based Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, however, isn’t a game that can or should be rushed. Despite offering three difficulty options it can be a difficult game so having a bit of preparation beforehand will go a long way to making life easier for new players.
10 Check The Tactical Guide
There are many stories, exploration, and action in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order that it’s easy to forget to check the game’s menu screen. However, not only does the menu screen give the player tons of customization options but there’s a Tactical Guide too.
The Tactical Guide is a handy little tool that provides information about Cal’s enemies. This also includes weaknesses, attack patterns and hints on how to defeat them. It’s especially useful if players are struggling with certain enemy types and bosses.
9 Go Off The Beaten Path
It may not seem like it at first but the worlds that Cal can visit in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are huge. Even though they seem linear at first the Metroidvania-like planets work in a similar manner to the Dark Souls series and the new God of War.
There’s always a set way to go when following the game’s map to the destination point but just like God of War it pays off to go wandering and exploring as the game is filled with secrets, rewards, and lore.
8 Go Back To Previously Visited Worlds
A gameplay mechanic that is common with Metroidvania style games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is that the environments are huge labyrinthine maps full of hidden secrets and lore. These areas will often interconnect with shortcuts and hide hidden pathways to new unexplored terrain.
Each world Fallen Order has inaccessible areas that can be opened when Cal unlocks certain powers in the later stages of the game. Abilities like the Force Push which can knock down weak walls and wall running that can help bridge the gap between platforms that were impossible to reach beforehand.
7 Get The Double-Bladed Lightsaber Early
When the player has finished with Bogano’s main campaign Cal is able to return to his ship for access to other worlds in the game’s story. The worlds are Zeffo and Dathomir and even though the main story will take the player Zeffo it is worth doing a detour to the dark planet of Dathomir first.
Dathomir is the home planet of the fallen Sith Darth Maul and as expected it’s full of difficult enemies. The struggle is worth it, however, because there’s a double-bladed lightsaber waiting. Once the player reaches Brother’s Bastion they will meet a hooded stranger and near him to the left is a small cave that hides a workshop with the tools to create the double-sided lightsaber.
6 The Abandoned Workshop
Dathomir isn’t the only world that contains a workshop to craft the double-sided lightsaber. In fact, there is one located on Bogano which is the first planet the player visit. However, this area isn’t available on the first go-round as the player needs to have the Force Push ability and BD-1’s Scomp-Link upgrade to get access to it.
The player can access the Abandoned Workshop after crossing the bridge from the Great Divide. Taking a left and continuing forward the player needs to blast through the broken wall with a Force Push to access the abandoned workshop.
5 Listen To BD-1
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order’s BD-1 is one of the most lovable droids in the Star Wars universe. However, he’s more than just a cute companion to make Cal’s journey seem less lonely as he’s traversing the game’s many hostile worlds.
BD-1 is also there to act as a waypoint at certain points in the game and works as a great guide. In addition, he reacts when Cal is near something of interest and can reveal the location of secrets, seeds, Force Essence and more. He can even scan downed enemies providing tactical information to make the next fight easier.
4 Meditate Often
Star Wars Jedi: The Last Order has a lot in common with the Dark Souls series. It even has its own version of the Bonfire in the form of Meditation points that allow players to save, rest/heal and level up using the skill tree.
Just like the Dark Souls’ Bonfires can save the player from losing hours of progress when navigating the game worlds and resting will also make enemies respawn. As a result, the player must use caution and choose when to rest.
3 Learn To Block And Parry
It’s pretty well established by now that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order isn’t a button-mashing beat-em-up. If players run into difficult situations without any thought or control will soon find themselves facing the respawn screen over and over again.
Those that take the time to learn their enemies attack patterns, tells and timing will have a much easier time. Knowing when to block while keeping an eye on the stamina gauge is just as important as knowing when to parry. Timing the perfect parry will lead to Cal hitting his opponents with a satisfying finishing move.
2 Use The Double-Bladed For Crowd Control
One of the coolest features in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the ability to use the double-bladed lightsaber made famous by Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. However, it isn’t there just to make Cal look good in a fight, it has specific uses in battle too.
Facing a group of Stormtroopers of several types can cause issues even for the most skilled players of the game with a single-sided lightsaber. The double-bladed lightsaber is definitely the weapon of choice for battling through multiple enemies at once and is much quicker when it comes to deflecting blaster bolts.
1 The Best Settings For The PS4 Pro And Xbox One X
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a good looking game even on the base console systems. It looks especially good on the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. However, there are some issues with the game’s performance in certain areas.
The game does suffer some slowdown and texture pop-in which will hopefully be addressed in a future patch. Thankfully, the Pro and X have a Performance Mode which sets the game at 1080p with an improved framerate. This will help alleviate many of these issues and is better suited for an action game of this type.
