How much are you willing to spend for a unique gaming experience? Custom video game consoles are all the rage these days, with modders all over the world advertising their interesting takes on classic devices like the GameBoy or the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Some modders have even put a spin on more modern consoles, such as the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4.

There are some pretty creatively modded consoles out there that are available for only a few hundred bucks. But, as with anything in life, there are also higher-end products that most people would need a bank loan to get their hands on. Let’s take a look at 10 of the most ridiculously expensive custom video game consoles. (Hint: think gold. Lots of gold.)

10 Sheikah Nintendo Switch Mod ($1,090)

This incredible Nintendo Switch mod by Spain-based modder MakoMod pays tribute to one of Nintendo’s most beloved games — The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. MakoMod took the game and turned it into an entire console with this Sheikah Slate-inspired design.

The console itself, the Joy-Cons, and the docking station on this Sheikah Switch were designed to look just like Link’s worn-out wood and stone multipurpose tablet. Unfortunately, those who want to play Breath of the Wild on the game’s biggest artifact will have to pay a hefty price. One Sheikah Switch was sold on eBay back in 2017 for $1,090.

9 24K Xbox One Pearl ($1,200)

Gaming gets a luxury upgrade with this limited-edition Xbox One from ColorWare. The custom design company debuted the console in 2015 after they released a 24K gold-accented Xbox One controller that same year. Like the controller, ColorWare’s 24K Xbox One Pearl is covered in a beautiful, glossy pearl finish with a touch of gold accents.

The console is almost too gorgeous to actually use. Plus, it’s best to keep the ColorWare device in perfect condition, because it’s worth a lot of money today and the value will probably continue to increase. ColorWare sold only 50 consoles at the time for $1,200 each, and they don’t plan on designing any more, making this Xbox a rare collector’s item.

8 Elder Scrolls 25th Anniversary PlayStation 4 Pro/Xbox One ($1,500)

Bethesda Softworks celebrated the 25th anniversary of its most popular game franchise, The Elder Scrolls, with limited-edition Xbox One and PlayStation 4 Pro consoles. Bethesda ran a contest during Bethesda Game Days at the PAX East games conference last year, where only three custom Xbox One and PS4 Pro consoles were given away.

The Xbox One console and its controller feature an all-over Elder Scrolls map design, while the PS4 Pro and DualShock controller are mostly white with a map design on the surface. As one can imagine, the consoles are very hard to come by. One winner listed their PS4 Pro on eBay for $1,500.

7 Maziora Dreamcast ($4,500)

Don’t blink, or you’ll miss this Dreamcast change colors. This epic Sega console was redesigned by Japanese car and bike company Maziora, who specializes in ChromaFlair (color-changing) products. The console and controller start out as a shiny green color, but in the right light, they change to purple, pink, and blue.

In addition to the console and controller, the Dreamcast came with a bunch of Maziora swag, including a “dream passport” CD, a helmet-shaped keychain, a sticker, and a pamphlet about motorsports. Only 500 of these babies were produced. One is listed on eBay for $4,500.

6 24K Gold Analogue NT ($4,999)

In 2014, Seattle-based video game company Analogue brought a whole new life to the classic NES by creating the NT, a modern console designed to play your favorite NES titles. Two years later, the aluminum console got a luxury upgrade in celebration of (surprise, surprise) The Legend of Zelda’s 30th anniversary.

Analogue released a brand-new, 24K gold and hand-polished NT along with a gold-colored The Legend of Zelda cartridge for $4,999 (the standard NT costs $499). Only 10 of these limited-edition consoles were created and given to gamers who made a reservation via email. At this point, the rare item is likely worth much more money.

5 Lara Croft Xbox 360 ($11,000)

What do you get when you plaster 43,000 crystals on an Xbox? Lara Croft’s face, apparently. This limited-edition Tomb Raider tribute from Germany is covered in colorful gems that mimic the likeness of the action franchise’s heroine. It certainly looks cool, because from a distance it just seem hand-painted, but there likely aren’t too many fans that would be willing to pay $11,000 for this rare find.

4 Gatti Luxury Lab PlayStation 4/Xbox One Rose Gold ($13,700)

Here we have yet another regular-turned-luxury console. Italian jeweler Gatti Luxury Lab decked out PS4 and Xbox One consoles in rose gold back in 2014. The same models were available in yellow gold, and every one featured a geometric patterned etched on top with the console’s logo.

At the time, Jumbo Electronics called the consoles “a great collectible item for gamers who love luxury,” according to Gamespot. The consoles debuted at the Games14 convention in the Middle East that same year, where they sold for $13,700 each.

3 Beatles Rock Band Xbox 360 ($17,300)

This hand-painted Xbox 360 doubles as a fully-functional game console and an artwork worthy of putting on display. The brightly-colored design features a scene from the introduction to 2009’s The Beatles: Rock Band and covers the entire console.

Harmonix auctioned one console off on eBay to benefit Doctors Without Borders, an organization chosen by Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, Paul McCartney, and Olivia Harrison themselves. Insanely enough, the auction began at just $20.50, but increased to a whopping $17,300. In addition, players who downloaded the All You Need is Love DLC were entered into a contest to win one of the consoles and a Rickenbacker 325 controller.

2 Gold and Diamond Gameboy ($29,500)

Can’t decide between gold or diamonds? Don’t worry, this one-of-a-kind GameBoy from Aspreys of London has both. The custom handheld device was cleverly inspired by Pokemon Gold and Silver and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. It’s a standard 1989 GameBoy, but the console is covered in 18K gold, while the screen is lined with ultra-tiny, shimmering diamonds.

In addition to the console, the luxury GameBoy came with gold-tinged copies of Super Mario Land, Golf, and Monopoly, according to Engadget. Just one of these was sold in 2009 Swiss Supply Direct, Inc. for $29,500.

1 Nintendo Wii Supreme ($332,718)

And finally, we have the mother of all overpriced, custom luxury consoles. We’re not joking, either — The Nintendo Wii Supreme is considered the most expensive gaming console in the world. It was created by luxury tech company Stuart Hughes in 2009.

Why is it worth more than $330,000 you ask? Unlike other gold consoles, the Nintendo Wii Supreme is not painted or plated. It’s made with 2,500 grams of solid 22K gold. On top of that, 19K diamonds make up the buttons on the console and the matching remote. The Wii may not have been Nintendo’s most popular console, but we sure wish we could afford this one.
