Everyone got a bad feeling when Disney gave EA exclusive rights to make Star Wars games, but now we have a small glimmer of hope. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a nice shower amidst the drought of good Star Wars games. Star Wars Battlefront 2 became a worthwhile game after constant updates and its canceled support of loot boxes.
This gives us hope for quality Star Wars games in the future. There are many games that fans have wanted for a long time and many great ideas out there. Everything is allowed on this list with the assumption that each game turns out well. That means remasters, sequels, canceled games, and new ideas are free rein. Let’s dream for a little bit. A world where Star Wars brings people together instead of causing extraneous internet debates, just imagine!
10 Star Wars Podracing
The Star Wars podracing game from 1999, more specifically Star Wars Episode I: Racer, was a hit. It has an 8.5 on Metacritic and a 9/10 on Steam. The closest we have to a Podracing game is Lego Star Wars, which is only good for destroying friendships and breaking controllers.
A modern podracing game could include a story-driven career mode, multiplayer (couch and online), and even VR support. It would take racers to other planets, each with a unique set of rules. Some planets have strict rules to focus entirely on racing, while others allow blaster fire and under-the-table tactics. Lastly, an in-depth customization system where players can build their Podracer from the ground up would be an ideal component.
9 Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic Remaster
This RPG will continue to be the crowning jewel of Star Wars games. It succeeded in creating content separate from the movies and the RPG format made players feel like an influential part of the galaxy.
A Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remaster would bring the game to a whole new audience while giving old-timers a reason to revisit it. Major changes to the storyline and basic structure of the game are not necessary, but the graphics can get an overhaul, and the gameplay can be more approachable for the modern gamer.
8 Black Squadron
The Black Squadron is the Resistance Starfighter squadron led by Poe Dameron. This new squadron is the perfect reason to recreate the magic of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, an iconic Nintendo-64 game.
Star Wars is perfect for flying and dogfighting given its vast range of ships and weaponry. The ideal game would follow Dameron’s various missions against the First Order in space and on various planets. Much like the Podracing game, it would include deep customization so players can make a ship of their own. The best part, though, would be large scale multiplayer battles and co-op missions.
7 Republic Commando Centered on Captian Rex
The 2005 game, Star Wars Republic Commando, is another iconic Star Wars game. It was a first-person shooter that followed a squad of elite clone troopers. It’s beloved for its shooting mechanics and the focus on commanding a squad. A Republic Commando-inspired game centered on Captain Rex from Star Wars: The Clone Wars would be a dream come true.
The animated series gave the clone troopers distinct personalities and explored their humanity. It had an aura of sadness with the foreboding knowledge of Order 66. A first-person shooter that follows the emotional journey of Captian Rex would make a great story and intense gameplay. There is a large era of Captain Rex’s life that’s been unexplored, and that’s where the game could focus. The campaign would includeCall of Duty level setpieces, strategic leadership gameplay, and a story that reaches the emotional depths of The Last of Us.
6 An Open-World Action RPG
An open-world action RPG that captures the same magic as KOTOR would be a monumental achievement in gaming. It would be in the same realm as Skyrim or The Outer Worlds. The game would feature numerous planets from Star Wars and give the player the freedom to make their own story.
The key is combining in-depth RPG mechanics with action-oriented combat. An open-world galaxy with new and established Star Wars lore is too good to be true. We just want a new Star Wars RPG with modern-day technology. It’s our only hope for unity among the Star Wars fandom.
5 Uncharted Style Ashoka Tano Game
Fans have been imagining an Uncharted-inspired Star Wars game ever since Amy Hennig’s canceled Star Wars project. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was close, but it took more inspiration from Dark Souls than anything else. Sometimes, a linear, story-driven adventure can be a welcoming sight.
Uncharted was successful for a reason, and Ashoka Tano would be an excellent protagonist for such a game. She is a fan-favorite character that can be further explored in-game. The game could cover the substantial gap in her life after Star Wars: Rebels. Shoot, make Ezra Bridger a playable character, as well. His lightsaber blaster would make for some fun gameplay.
4 Smugglers on Coruscant
The canceled Star Wars 1313 promised an exploration of Coruscant’s underworld, one of the most fascinating places in Star Wars. The underworld is the lower level of Coruscant where the more undesirable scum of the galaxy hangs out. A free roam game following a smuggler on Coruscant would be a fun experience, especially if it’s rated M. It would take advantage of the criminal aspect of Star Wars, going all out with violence and adult themes.
The underworld itself would be bustling with tons of NPCs and side missions to undertake. It takes a lot of guts to be a criminal on Coruscant, with the Jedi looming above. The game would be heavily centered on stealth and the sight of a Jedi would bring chills. It’s like running away from Mr. X in Resident Evil 2.
3 A Darth Maul Game
The Darth Maul game was already attempted before getting canceled. That was truly heartbreaking, as Maul’s lightsaber style is a perfect ingredient for some fun gameplay. The game would be set before the event of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
It’s the one era of Maul’s life that hasn’t been explored outside of a few novels. The Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order formula would work well here, except with dark side powers and new planets to explore. It could also work as a Palpatine backstory by telling the events of Darth Plagueis.
2 A Darth Vader Game
There are multiple stories about the Jedi survivors of Order 66, but few stories featuring Darth Vader right after the events of that dark day. The Marvel comic series, aptly named Darth Vader, follows the sith as he hunts down the remaining Jedi. It paints Vader in a truly terrifying light. Everyone is afraid of the legendary Dark Lord of the Sith.
A game could follow Vader and his Inquisitors as they hunt down surviving Jedi. It would be rich in boss fights and explore the true depths of Vader’s power, serving as a power fantasy. Everyone loves a game, like Control, that’s all about wielding unlimited power. The closest we’ve gotten to this was the prologue to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and it was a glorious few minutes of gameplay.
1 A Bounty Hunter Game
People have been asking for this since the 2002 Jango Fett game, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, established itself as a fan-favorite. The Mandalorian is fueling the flames with its video game-inspired action scenes.
The game would have players taking on bounties, weighing risk with reward, and traveling across the galaxy to accomplish their mission. All the favorite bounty hunter gadgets would be available from flame throwers to jetpacks. The game could follow famous Star Wars bounty hunters including Boba Fett, Cad Bane, Bossk, IG-88, Embo, and many more. Each character would have a distinct play style and mission. The ability to create your won bounty hunter is tempting, too. Really, the options are limitless.
