So Treyarch has nailed it again and released another massively successful Call of Duty. Honestly, I had given up on the franchise for years now but this one pulled me back in.

There’s an absurd amount of content for an initial release and each mode has plenty for people to unlock and do.

First of all, there’s Blackout, the new Battle Royale mode that sports a titanically large map. This is probably my favorite Battle Royale game, somehow dethroning Fortnite. Just the act of including scorestreaks, specialists, and zombies within Blackout has brought the genre to all new heights. Next, there is the zombie mode. This is what always kept me around in past games and it’s honestly the best it’s ever been with Black Ops 4. There’s a whole new host of stories, characters, unlockables, and secrets within the four released maps and I’m sure that’s not all. Zombies has always been an almost perfected game type and it’s refreshing to see Treyarch experimenting with something that was already successful. Lastly, there’s the multiplayer, which is quite truly, more of the same. It’s that same Call of Duty multiplayer that people love and that’s both a blessing and curse. The specialists definitely spice up the mode as well as the scorestreaks, and the new maps have some exciting concepts. Overall with all the game types, modes, and weapons in the game I could fill a book with its features and secrets. But I’ll keep it as brief as possible, and simply tell you about the 25 Awesome Things Players Can Do In Call of Duty Black Ops 4.

25 You Can Use Your Wingsuit Anytime

So the wingsuit is hard to miss. If you’ve played even 2 minutes of the new Blackout mode you’ll have seen the wingsuit. It’s a great compromise between the slow parachuting in PUBG and the slightly too fast gliding in Fortnite.

But, what’s even better about the wingsuit is that it’s not just single use.

Yeah sure that might seem obvious but people usually assume that once they hit the ground, no more gliding. Turns out when you hop of a high building while roaming in Blackout, you can redeploy the wingsuit to nab some extra distance. Absolutely awesome.

24 You Can Still Shoot While Sliding

It’s hard nowadays to innovate on the FPS genre. That’s namely because the core gameplay has mostly been perfected, “improving” on anything else leads to a large portion of fans hating the changes no matter what. Take Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, for example, that game had double jumps, wall running, jetpacks, and more. But the majority of fans felt this diverged from what made Call of Duty so great.

Now, in Black Ops 4, Treyarch has dialed it back.

Players can still slide, jump, and maneuver seamlessly, but now it’s much more precise and cohesive.

23 You Can Use Scorestreaks Non-Intrusively

Scorestreaks can be vastly different from one another. One could simply show enemies on your map, while another allows you to take control of a jet. In previous games, activating your scorestreak was something of a challenge in of itself. Your character would have a canned animation they’d do for every scorestreak and sometimes you’d run into the enemy unarmed because you were setting of your UAV. In Black Ops 4 this isn’t the case.

Scorestreaks are part of the “Guns Still Up” system where Treyarch has been doing everything in their power to keep the core gameplay uninterrupted.

22 You Can Find Enemies Purely By Audio (Usually)

Just like in past Call of Duty games, your ears are incredibly important. Your ears, or some absurdly accurate and expensive headphones. Either way, Treyarch made sure to include all the necessary audio so that expert players can gain an edge.

This is especially helpful in game modes like Blackout where camping and holing up in a house is actually pretty important.

That said, apparently, there are some issues with the audio in the game currently and the footsteps aren’t quite as accurate as intended. But, I’d say you can expect a fix within the next week or so for sure.

21 You Can Get An Edge With Jump Shots

This next one actually has to do with a current controversy. Currently, the game has some pretty weak servers in comparison to past games. People say that it won’t cause issues, but it already has.

Jump shooting is the act of jumping around corners and shooting your opponent as you come around.

Because of the server delay, you actually appear around the corner on your opponent’s screen pretty late. It’s enough time to get a couple free shots and in a low health game like this, that’s crucial. It’s a bad situation, but this expert trick is pretty cool.

20 You Can Use The Mystery Box In Blackout

Blackout mode really is a conglomeration of all the other game modes. It’s got just about everything, including its own version of the Mystery Box from the zombie’s mode.

That’s right, you and your squad of 3 friends have a chance at finding the Mystery Box out there in the gigantic Battle Royale map.

It doesn’t function exactly the same, however, considering there’s no currency in Blackout. But it is a welcome addition to the game mode and an excellent way for Treyarch to improve upon the genre.

19 You Can Strategically Share Mystery Box Weapons

And speaking of the Mystery Box, there’s another new awesome feature included in Black Ops 4. One that seems incredibly minor, but it actually adds a lot.

Finally, in zombies players are able to decline the Mystery Box weapon and allow one of their teammates to grab it.

Before, your friends would just stand there glaring as you used the Mystery Box over and over. But now, while they wait for you to find the “perfect” weapon and spend all your money, you can hand them your scraps. Now that’s what I call cooperation.

18 You Can Still Take Down Enemy UAV’s

Now, this next feature has been in plenty of games in the Call of Duty franchise, but somehow people seem to forget all about it still.

You can shoot down enemies UAV’s, please oh please remember that.

It may not seem like the most exciting thing but it’s one of the most helpful by far. In previous games there was a UAV Counter UAV metagame that took care of that problem for you, but not in Black Ops 4. Be the hero of your team in multiplayer, throw a rocket launcher on and take out those UAVs.

17 You Can Shock Enemies With An RC Car

There’s a certain something that some people need to chill with. It’s similar to the RC car scorestreak but not quite the same.

Instead of exploding the Hot Wheels-esque car will literally shock your opponent, stunning them for a couple seconds.

Videogamedunkey made it a large portion of his video talking about Black Ops 4 and I don’t blame him. It’s a ton of fun to use! It’s absolutely hilarious to stroll up to a stunned enemy and take them out. That said, I’ve been on the receiving end of a few and boy howdy is it super annoying.

16 You Can Use A Bayonet

So yes it’s true that Call of Duty has moved away from the whole “far future” aspect of their games. Infinite Warfare was a decent entry into the franchise but it ended up feeling a bit too much like Titanfall.

Black Ops 4 still has some futuristic tech in it, but not to the same level as before.

Except for one thing. This item is the end all be all of the futuristic attachments. It’s a knife. On your gun. That’s right the Operator Mod for the VAPR is the bayonet attachment. Honestly, it’s both hilarious and plain awesome.

15 You Can Play Basketball

Oh, it’s time to experience the real game in Black Ops 4. And no I’m not talking multiplayer, or zombies.

No, what I’m talking about, is it’s time to sink some buckets, my friends.

That’s right, in Blackout you can put on your Jordan’s and re-enact Space Jam by playing basketball. Now, this is little more than a neat little feature, but it’s pretty darn accurate. You can even throw the ball up and nail it with a combat axe if you so please like one such penguinz0 in the image above.

14 You Can Use The Firetruck As A Springboard

The Gridlock map in Black Ops 4 is an all-around decent map. “A Japanese metropolis whose city center has been jammed up by a bank heist gone wrong.” according to the in-game description. It’s another chaotic city zone. But, there’s a little breath of life in this map that some clever Redditors have spotted.

Turns out the firetruck in the map has it’s water cannon constantly going off.

And players can use the force of that cannon to launch themselves a fair distance across the map! While not too strategically viable, it is a ton of fun. Thanks to CptByle on Reddit!

13 You Can Play Zombies Or Blackout Split Screen

Now, this next one might not seem all that awesome, especially for people who love online gaming. But I personally miss the days of couch co-op, where you could invite a friend over and spend all day playing Resident Evil 5 or Army of Two. It’s sad that nowadays the only way to game with friends in the same room is either through LAN parties or party games.

Thankfully, Black Ops 4 supports split-screen in zombies and in Blackout.

zombies especially makes for a perfect game to play with friends on any given day and is a very considerate inclusion from Treyarch.

12 You Can Shoot So Hard Your Opponents Can’t Focus

This has to be my favorite Operator mod in the game. It’s for the Titan LMG and honestly doesn’t seem all that great on first glance.

Basically, while firing at an opponent, any bullets that miss will then slow their actions and make their screen shake.

The bullets are firing with such raw power that it throws your opponent off. So it’s not just useful, but also thematically radical. It’s useful in that if you’re with a team all enemies that are close together will be affected by your bullets. Great for helping everyone secure their K/D.

11 You Can Unlock Camos Through Dark Ops

Except for the Dark Matter camo. Boy howdy will I never unlock that mammoth. But other than that Treyarch has put in a ton of amazing camos for the weapons that’ll have you grinding out those Challenges and Dark Ops constantly.

And they’ve even expanded upon the system to include max tier versions of the camo that change in-game depending on how you’re performing.

Now, these max tier changes aren’t permanent, once activated they last till the end of the current match. But still, what a creative way to expand upon and already a beloved system. Plus look how shiny they look!

10 You Can Visit Remixed Versions Of Old Maps In Blackout Mode

Treyarch has actually homaged older version of their maps in some ways. First of all is the remixed or remastered versions of past maps like Nuketown that are actually in the multiplayer. But they’ve also re-done classic zombies maps like “Five” and made them into entirely new experiences.

Most of all they’ve used their gargantuan Blackout map to pay homage to their greatest maps in the franchise.

Most if not all of the named sections on the map are straight up altered versions of older maps. This is an incredibly inventive way to repurpose older content in a totally acceptable fashion.

9 You Can Fight Zombies With Swords In The Colosseum

Treyarch’s zombies’ mode has been a staple of their Call of Duty games since their inception.

This time around there is a great amount of depth and complexity to the mode, even more so than usual.

An example of this is with the map “IX” where the four players are trapped in a Roman Colosseum. This is by far my favorite map among the four and I’ll tell you why in two words, zombie tigers. That and melee weapons play a large part in the map. Wrap that all up with a truly unique setting and you have an absolutely awesome experience

8 You Can Summon Dogs, Spider Tanks, And Jets

The scorestreaks have always been a beloved feature of the later Call of Duty games. They used to go by a different name but their function was always the same, the larger your combo, the higher tier of streak you can use. Among these streaks in Black Ops 4 are some truly awesome weapons.

Namely, you can summon an adorably rabid dog, this streak is currently absolutely overpowered in multiplayer.

But also, you can bring out the Mantis. A quadrupedal spider-like tank that roams the map decimating your enemies. Thank you Treyarch, thank you.

7 The Hidden Room In Zombies Is A Must Find

Like I said before, the zombies’ mode in CoD games are a blast.

One of the reasons they’re so fun is because somehow Treyarch manages to pack so much into relatively small maps.

Each map has its own story, cast, and secrets. And Black Ops 4 is probably the most involved the mode has ever been. This time around there are secret songs, weapons, enemies, perks, I mean jeez there’s even a secret spoon. It’s my personal favorite multiplayer aspect of the games and trying to beat your highest round can be so incredibly addicting.

6 Life Packs Are Back (And Change Way More Than You Think)

There was a period of gaming where no matter what genre you played, it had regenerating health. It could be a video game version of UNO and somehow you’d still have regenerating health. Anecdote aside, Call of Duty was known for this aspect of recovery.

But Treyarch decided to switch it up with their newest release and Black Ops 4 has stim shots instead.

Think of them as health potions. Controlling your own recovery is actually much better as it allows for more strategic gameplay. Plus no more red “blood” on the screen, finally.
