Fallout 4 is the latest numbered installment of the franchise. Bethesda focused more on improving the animations and gameplay of their older games. Fans have criticized the lack of role-playing with the predetermined backgrounds of the protagonists, Nate and Nora.

After playing Fallout 4, fans quickly realized that the main campaign is short. Some fans became so uninterested in the search for baby Shaun that they avoided it entirely. After all, you’re not punished for taking your time to find the Institute.

The Commonwealth has a wealth of areas to explore. Once you’ve chosen your favorite companion or decided to continue your adventure alone, you might start completing all of the side quests. The game was initially released in 2015, but there are still hidden and unmarked quests to complete.

These special areas were only expanded upon in the DLC content that opened up the world in Far Harbor and Nuka World. Many fans may not have believed that these new expansion packs offered much material, but they shouldn’t be missed if you want the full Fallout 4 experience.

After three years since Fallout 4 was released, you may think that you’ve found every hidden experience the Commonwealth has to offer. If you’re a super fan of the game, you’ve likely already finished the main plot and are seeking more adventure.

This list contains spoilers for Fallout 4, and its expansion packs. If you’ve decided to start another game as you wait for Fallout 76, you might find something new to search for in the Commonwealth in the meantime.

25 What Doesn’t Hurt Will Make The Player Stronger

In the prologue of Fallout 3, there are many life stage flashbacks. One of those flashbacks includes the Lone Wanderer as a child. At their birthday party, they’re given a Sweet Roll from Old Lady Palmer.

The Lone Wanderer must have managed to keep their sweet roll from Butch for over a decade.

Inside of the Reed Marina diner, the Sole Survivor can find this treat once again. Beside the Tesla Science Magazine is the “Happy Birthday sweet roll.” Although it’s old and moldy, it will still heal you by +20 Hit Points.

24 Celebrate Two Holidays

Diamond City is the great green jewel of the Commonwealth. Most players travel there and only see a normal baseball field. Travel to Diamond City on the in-game dates October 31 or December 25, and you’ll be treated to a surprise.

The settlement only celebrates two holidays a year, but the residents go all out on decorating. Jack-o-lanterns are covering the pathways in October. Holiday trees and lights make Diamond City shine even brighter. The residents don’t comment about the holidays, but the visual effects are a nice change.

23 A Touching Tribute To A Fallen Fan

Bethesda wanted the Fallout series to be more accessible to all fans. After playing Fallout 3, some gamers fell in love with the series. On Reddit, NoohjXLVII spoke about his brother Evan who loved the series. Bethesda was going to send Evan a care package, but he passed away before receiving it.

Bethesda decided to make Evan an NPC in Nuka-World. Evan’s Home is located South of Nuka Station. After speaking to him, he will give the Sole Survivor the recipe for “Nuka-Love,” which can be crafted at any Nuka-mixer crafting station.

22 Fireworks On The Cliffside

It can be easy to forget that you’re not the only person that exists in the Commonwealth. Settlers have had to learn how to survive after the Great War. That includes finding entertainment.

North of Fort Hagen, you’ll find a small shack perched on top of a cliff.

Within the shack are acetylene tanks that can be fired into the air. Launch them and you’ll be treated to a grand fireworks display. Let’s hope that no unsuspecting settlers are walking around the launch site.

21 Call Everyone Together

Once your settlements begin to grow in size, you’ll have lots of new residents. Many of them will approach the Sole Survivor and ask for a job. Others may wander around the settlement and sleep all day. The Sole Survivor can craft a bell to call everyone together. Once all of the settlers are in one place, you can easily spot who needs to be assigned a job. Unfortunately, this bell won’t call for companions. You’ll have to find them on your own.

20 Valentine Can’t Help You This Time

Vaults weren’t always built in plain sight. Many vaults were constructed underneath existing buildings. In Far Harbor, Vault 118 was in construction under the Cliff’s Edge Hotel. Pearl will request your help in solving the crime that took place. You’ll quickly discover the vault’s inhabitants are all robots. If Nick Valentine is your companion, he won’t help you solve the mystery. It’s up to you to solve the case. By using your detective skills, you’ll have to uncover who was guilty and deal with the fallout.

19 Customize Your Arm’s Best Friend

The Sole Survivor first finds their Pip-Boy before leaving Vault 111. The screen’s basic colors are a black background with green images and text. If you’re a fan of the traditional colors, you have the option to change the color of the interface.

The Sole Survivor can easily change the color of the display without mods or console commands.

Within the Pip-Boy’s menu, choose “Display.” From there, you can change the color of both the interface and the game’s heads-up display. The flashlight of your Pip-Boy will also reflect this color change.

18 Restore Your Humanity

Nuka-World is meant to be a place filled with family-friendly fun. Unfortunately, it’s turned into a haven for Raiders. Once you’ve decided to help them or have taken them all out, there are many areas left to explore. Northeast of the region, you’ll find a pointed sun with an arrow pointing down. On the floor is a bonfire with a sword embedded in it. The Sole Survivor will have the option to light the flame. There are no additional perks from lighting the bonfire, but it’s a fun Easter egg for fans of both Fallout and the Dark Souls series.

17 You’ll Never Be Thirsty Again

Codsworth is one of the last friends the Sole Survivor has left from the past. He is a Mister Handy that acted as a butler for your family. Codsworth is one of the first companions you can recruit. He’s as entertaining as the other Companions, but he is quite handy. If you travel over water, he can extract it. Talk to him, and Codsworth will give you purified water. If you’re not in a region with much water, like Nuka-World, don’t worry. Codsworth’s condensers still work, and he can extract water from the air around you.

16 Become A Prehistoric Hero

Grognak the Barbarian is a comic book series that is published by Hubris Comics. His character lives in a prehistoric world with fantasy creatures. If you explore the comic book store, you’ll find a hidden gem.

On the top floor of the building next to the edit is a Grognak the Barbarian costume.

This outfit will improve your melee damage by 20% and grant a bonus of +2 Strength. Both Nate and Nora can become Grognak the Barbarian. Unfortunately, unlike the Silver Shroud, there is no quest associated with the outfit.

15 They Have The Same Taste In Clothing

Nick Valentine may seem like a calm, cool, and collected Synth Detective. There’s still one case that bothers him. In the Valentine Detective Agency, under the bed on the main floor, you’ll find a secret file. This file collects all of the information on the Mysterious Stranger. Nick has tried to find out his true identity for years. If you have the Mysterious Stranger perk, and Nick is your companion, he will comment whenever the stranger appears. Nick is the only character who is that invested in the Mysterious Stranger.

14 Investigate The Mystery Meat

In the Eastern region of the Commonwealth, you’ll discover Longneck Lukowski’s cannery. The cannery was rebuilt with the help of Theodore Collins and his team of Mister Handies. They process meat but eventually ran out of ingredients. They began replacing the meat with Mole Rats and then Feral Ghouls. Customers began to fall ill, which led to an argument between Collins and a trader named Rylee. If the Sole Survivor tries to investigate, Collins will attempt to seal them in the basement, so the secret doesn’t get out.

13 Contribute To The Commonwealth’s Economy

Any Fallout fan knows that bottle caps are the primary currency in the series. While the Sole Survivor is exploring the Commonwealth, there’s a chance they’ll run into Parker Quinn.

Quinn will offer to sell you a “charge card” for 110 caps.

Quinn explains that the card works similar to a credit card. Unfortunately, it becomes a junk item that you can’t use in the Commonwealth. It only becomes useful in Far Harbor. An NPC will redeem your card for 100 caps. In the end, you’ll lose ten caps, but you help contribute to the Commonwealth’s economy.

12 Now I’m Free And Free Falling

There are several skeletons placed around the Commonwealth. Many are victims of the Great War. Others may have a more tragic story. In Mass Fusion, there was an intern named Jack Rockford. He was inspired by all of the work on elevators in the building. He created the Freefall Legs and placed them in a safe. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to retrieve them before the bombs fell. Luckily for you, the Sole Survivor can use them. This piece of armor will protect you from any fall, no matter how high you fall.

11 Take Down A Spooky Fog Beast

While exploring the lower half of the Far Harbor map, the Pip-Boy will pick up the Shipbreaker’s radio frequency. If you decide to follow the mysterious signal, be sure to load up on equipment and take Longfellow along. Following the frequency will lead you to a giant Fog Crawler named the Shipbreaker. The monster will immediately become hostile. After the fight is over, speak to Longfellow. He will tell the Sole Survivor how he’s been searching for the Shipbreaker for years. As thanks, Longfellow will give you a unique weapon called Skipper’s Last Stand.

10 Become Part Of The Cool Cats Club

Seasoned Fallout 4 players are aware of the main factions: Institute, Minutemen, Brotherhood of Steel, and the Roadroad. There are minor factions in the Commonwealth that are easy to miss.

The Atom Cats are a gang of Power Armor fanatics.

If you fix their water pump at the Warwick Homestead and help fight off Gunners, they’ll let you into their group. You’ll gain access to customizing your Power Armor with custom paint jobs and new mods. It’s worth it to take the time to make new friends in the Commonwealth.

9 He’s Always Watching You

Deacon is a recruitable companion who works for the Railroad. He has a positive attitude and is willing to vouch for the Sole Survivor. You may wonder how he knows you’re such an upstanding person. It turns out that Deacon is always watching you. Deacon first appears as a Security Guard in Diamond City. Travel past the city, and he’ll appear again when Hancock makes his speech on the balcony. If you recognize him, he won’t have a formal conversation with the Sole Survivor. He’ll say one line over and over again, like any other NPC.

8 The Circle Of Life

Fallout 4’s Commonwealth is filled with endless opportunities. If you’re doing the Minutemen’s radiant quests, you might find that these opportunities become repetitive quickly. You’ll be sent to the same settlements over and over again. You may wonder how this is possible. In Fallout 4, every thirty days, items and enemies are respawned in almost every location. No wonder that settlement needs your help over and over again. At least it means you can keep harvesting ingredients for those meals you’ll need along the journey.

7 Battle An Intergalactic Threat

Aliens have been part of the Fallout franchise since it began. In Fallout 4, you have the option of facing off against one of these extraterrestrial creators. While on your journey, you will suddenly see a crashing plane in the sky.

Follow the smoke, and you’ll find a crashed UFO ship site.

From there, a green substance will lead to a cave. There is an injured alien inside. Unfortunately, you can’t help him. He becomes immediately hostile and will attack you until his last breath. At least the battle will let you an Alien Blaster Pistol.

6 Follow The Treasure Map

Far Harbor contains several hidden locations under the fog. Once you’re finished with the main quest, there are still several secrets waiting to be found. In the South portion of the region, you’ll discover the “Eliza Map of Home” in the Cranberry Island Docks. You’ll find a series of journals which all contain pieces of a short story. The path isn’t easy. You’ll face off against powerful Mirelurks trying to block your path. After following the hints Eliza left behind, you’ll be treated to the Cranberry Island Shed, which is filled with helpful items.
