The 2K Support Twitter account has warned of a breach effecting the customer support department of its titles such as NBA 2K23 and WWE 2K22.
As per the tweet, the company “became aware that an unauthorised third party illegally accessed the credentials of one of our vendors to the help desk platform that 2K uses to provide support to our customers.”
The hackers, it says, were able to send a communication to certain players purporting to be from 2K Support that had a malicious link within.
As a result, players of 2K games are being asked to not click any links in emails received by the 2K Support account.
Anyone who’s already clicked on one of these links is advised to take precautionary steps to secure their account, including to reset any account passwords stored in their browser, turn on 2 Factor Authentication, and to check their account settings to make sure nothing’s been changed.
They’re also advised, of course, to install and run an antivirus program too, just to be safe.
2K are taking their support portal offline while they address the breach. They say they’ll issue a notice when people can once again resume interacting with official 2K help desk accounts.
Earlier this week, Rockstar Games (who are also owned by 2K parent company Take Two Interactive) issued a statement following a hack on their own servers. This resulted in the leak of in-development footage from their next Grand Theft Auto game surfacing online.
