While a lot of the shine may be the exclusive and new titles coming out for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this year, the Nintendo Switch may have some surprises up its sleeve. With rumors of the Nintendo Switch Pro hitting shelves in mid-2020, the gaming console might also have some news regarding the games that may be released this year.
So, we want to help you know what’s happening with some titles you may not have heard about, and discuss some rumors to be on the lookout for. Without further delay, here is our list of five Nintendo Switch games you didn’t know that are coming out this year, and five rumored ones we hope to see.
10 Scheduled - No More Heroes III
Who saw this one coming in the 2000s? The atmosphere of No More Heroes felt totally out of place with Nintendo’s family-friendly reputation. Nevertheless, we were sold on Travis Touchdown’s wacky journey, and we down to join in with the fun for two outings. The release of more prominent PS4 and Xbox One titles caused this one to go over our heads. But, Travis is back for another adventure. We don’t have an exact date for this one, but it is expected to be released this year.
9 Rumored - An Unknown Disney Action Game Remake
Some gamers have done some sleuthing, and it looks like the Switch may be having another action game from Disney making its way onto the platform. YouTube Doctre81 found the LinkedIn profile of Giuseppe Crugliano, CEO of gaming studio PlayMagic. Under his experience is a note about his work on a Disney action game remake for all the consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. Is it Kingdom Hearts, Epic Mickey, or another game from back in the day? Who knows! But we are hyped!
8 Scheduled - Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing In Disguise
The original creators from the first Deadly Premonition are back for this updated sequel. Considering how polarizing the first game was, it is likely that you may have missed out on hearing about this one as many aren’t highlighting it on “games to look out for” lists.
Nevertheless, the story description of an FBI Agent solving a serial murder case in New Orleans has gained our interest. It is worth checking out when it hits shelves this year.
7 Rumored - A New Crash Bandicoot Title
Try to read that title and not get nostalgic. With the re-release of Crash Bandicoot’s original trilogy (and the game moving 10 million units), it is no surprise that Activision’s CEO Robert “Bobby” Kotick would be considering bringing this guy to life again in a new title. A gaming leaker, @New_WabiSabi on Twitter with a known track record for releasing accurate gaming info, has stated that the company does have a new Crash Bandicoot game in the works. With Disney and Crash, it feels like the 90s all over again.
6 Scheduled - Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga
With us just having finished up the last movie in the new sequel trilogy, you wouldn’t be blamed for missing out on this one. Nevertheless, this game is set to cover events from all nine Star Wars films. The creative team decided against developing individual games for the rest of the new movies and instead tell one cohesive story. Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga will also be using a never-before-used gaming engine for this installment. We are not sure of an actual release date, but it will be available sometime this year.
5 Rumored - Metroid Prime Trilogy
We all know that Metroid Prime 4 is happening. However, did you also know that another slew of games featuring Samus is slated to be available within the next two to three years? According to LeakyPandy, a group that frequently leaks gaming information, the Metroid franchise is going to have a new trilogy.
Again, this is only a rumor, but with Metroid Prime 4 making its way to the Switch, we can only hope that this one is true. One adventure with Samus isn’t enough.
4 Scheduled - Minecraft Dungeons
Okay, so you may have heard of this one if you were following the news. However, there is a chance that you may have missed this one due to the game’s delay from 2019 to “early 2020.” Minecraft Dungeons is set to be a dungeon crawler experience encompassing the charm and mobs of the original game. If you enjoy games like Gauntlet and love the Minecraft style, then prepare to purchase this one when it comes out April of this year.
3 Rumored - An Alan Wake Remaster?
Everyone’s favorite Twin Peaks-inspired horror game could be making its way to the Nintendo Switch. According to the previous-mentioned Doctre81, the LinkedIn profile of a Virtuos lead developer said the feature was working on an “action-adventure remake.” Well, some aspects of the posting, as well as the studio’s relationship to Alan Wake’s original developer, have led to the rumor that this game could see a remastered edition that could be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Could it happen in 2020? Well, if the professional is working on the title right now…maybe. One could hope.
2 Scheduled - The Outer Worlds
We know precisely why you may not have heard of this one, and that’s because it is a new and original story. Unfortunately, in this day and age, sequels and remakes make the front page news. However, we definitely think you should know about The Outer Worlds.
The game is a new sci-fi RPG single-player experience. You will explore a space colony, as the story changes based on your player’s actions. A specific release date has not been set, but look out for this one sometime this year.
1 Rumored - Breath Of The Wild Sequel
Typically, the time between the Legend of Zelda games is five to six years. However, Nintendo could be breaking that precedent. A reliable game leaker, Sabi, leaked that Nintendo is planning to drop the Breath of the Wild sequel this year, only three years after 2017’s Game of the Year Winner. The game could come at the end of the year, right before the holiday season. When E3 rolls into town this summer, we will definitely be looking forward to Nintendo’s announcement day.
