Magic, witches and other things of the occult have been apart of the Sims franchise since The Sims: Makin’ Magic. It’s something that a lot of simmers enjoy playing with and so far in The Sims 4, it’s a type of gameplay that has been made available only with vampires.
That is until recently, with Realm of Magic announced.
Though details are limited on what it will bring to the Sims 4, teasers and screenshot leaks have the whole community buzzing with anticipation about what the game pack will bring.
Here are 5 things we hope to see in Realm Of Magic, and 5 things we don’t.
10 Hope To See: Different Witch Archetypes
Witches became a life state in The Sims 2: Apartment Life. They had to be turned into one and their alignment was Good, Evil or Neutral, depending on what type of witch turned them.
Each type had special interactions they could do but every witch had the same Westernized archetype. Hopefully, Realm of Magic includes different archetypes of witches, similar to the way they did with vampires and mermaids.
The game already has the Herbalism skill and a voodoo doll that could be incorporated into a green or garden witch archetype and voodoo style witchcraft, respectively.
9 Don’t Want To See: One Witch Archetype
The Sims 4: Vampires game pack really raised the bar on how Simmers want and expect occult life stages to be handled in The Sims 4.
It gave the beloved occult a new spin, giving vampire sims new abilities, deeper lore and different archetypes that Simmers could choose for their vampires.
Simmers could create a classic Nosferatu-like vampire or even a Twilight based one. With the different looks and skills made available, there is a wide variety of the kind of vampire a player could make, and hopefully, Realm of Magic does the same with witches.
8 Want To See: Fairies
Fairies first appeared in The Sims 3: Supernatural. Sims could either be created as fairies in CAS or turn into one by drinking an elixir or the “Recieve a Fairy Opportunity” interaction while searching for them in-game.
Fairies are another occult that simmers have been wanting in The Sims 4. There have been a few mentions of fairies in the game already. There was a bit of lore mentioned in Vampires and an item in Get Famous that included glowing sprites called “fairies.” Many Simmers hope that these mentions of fairies were teasers and that they’ll be included in Realm of Magic.
7 Don’t Want To See: Lackluster Occult
The occult life states offer Simmers a variety of gameplay that’s different from the general life simulator game. In The Sims 4 simmers can play as aliens, vampires, and mermaids and with the Realm of Magic game pack coming out soon, witches.
Vampires offer the most in-depth and are fun to play with. Hopefully, witches will have the same attention to detail and variety offered. We don’t want to see them treated the same way as aliens in The Sims 4, as an afterthought to the rest of the pack. Or have them wind up a little lackluster like mermaids.
6 Want To See: Werewolves
Werewolves and witches arguably share the top spot for the most wanted occult state in The Sims 4.
In The Sims 2, your sims could be turned into werewolves and transformed every night, while The Sims 3 made werewolves a life state.
Werewolves have been teased in The Sims 4 for a while, about as long as vampires, and the game pack included a pretty heavy lore dump of werewolves and their rivalry with vampires. Simmers are hoping that Realm of Magic might be the game pack they are introduced with.
5 Don’t Want To See: The Same Stuff From Older Packs
One of the goals of The Sims 4 is to bring new content to The Sims franchise and reinvent the game. With Realm of Magic, though simmers would like to see some of their favorite things from previous games, most don’t want it to be a carbon copy of old mechanics in older games and packs from The Sims 4.
The Moschino Stuff pack didn’t sit well with simmers for a number of reasons, including its Photography career as many felt it should have been included in Get to Work or patched in for free.
4 Want To See: A Big World
While witches and other occult sims have been able to live in any of the worlds and neighborhoods in The Sims Franchise, there have been specialty worlds that they could visit or live in.
Four of the previous game packs included worlds, two vacation worlds, and two residential ones. While there’s info suggesting we will get a world, we hope that it will be bigger than both of the worlds from Vampires or StrangerVille, as both of the worlds included are small with only a few lots that Sims can live on.
3 Don’t Want To See: Small World
There was speculation that Realm of Magic might have a world modeled after the neighborhood in The Sims 2: Apartment Life, where sims could visit but couldn’t live in.
There was a post made by a Guru that stated the world would be livable and many Simmers are hoping that the world in Realm of Magic will be more than a small neighborhood.
Vampires only gave 5 lots with two already full and no lounges or other venues to explore. And while Strangerville included more than Vampires, everything was based on the story present in the game pack.
2 Want To See: Witch Battles
In The Sims 3 witches had different magical interactions they could do on their own or with other sims. Once a witch reached Level 3 of Spellcasting, they unlocked the ability to duel other witches, Harry Potter style. This increased their Spellcasting skill and gave them a special moodlet.
Some Simmers hope that magic duels make a comeback. Vampires have the ability to fight one another, and sims with a high enough skill in Vampire Lore can fight vampires too. These fights are pretty amazing and we can only imagine how awesome witch fights could turn out!
1 Don’t Want To See: Lackluster CAS
Another let down of the Moschino Stuff pack was the small amount of CAS items available, which was surprising since it was advertised as a “fashion” pack. There was only a handful of hairs, clothing, and accessories for Sims (that didn’t include kids or toddlers), and we hope that Realm of Magic doesn’t follow the same path.
Though it’s a game pack, CAS is also very important, as it’s the first part of gameplay in any of the Sims games. Simmers love to have the option to create Sims with different types of styles.
