French footballer, Antoine Griezmann, just launched his own esports organization and is actively recruiting players.
Occupying spots on Barcelona FC and the French national team’s starting roster isn’t enough for Greizmann. He now looks to dip his feet into the world of professional gaming. Called Grizi Esport, Greizmann’s league wants to compete at the highest level of gaming for a variety of popular esports titles. Fortnite, CS:GO, Rainbow Six Siege, League of Legends, and FIFA are among the games listed.
Recruitment is happening now, and the newcomer of an organization is taking to twitter to find team members. “Become a (Penguin Emoji)”) reads the recent tweet from Grizi Esport (Who’s team mascot is a Penguin). Those who think they have what it takes to make one of the french-based team’s rosters are asked to send an email to contact@griziesport.com.
Since launching the org on Monday, Grizi Esport has accumulated over 12,000 Twitter followers, gaining buzz by the minute. The org trailer presents Grizi Esport over a mashup of gameplay from the titles that they hope to compete in. “Are you ready?” it asks. Watch the full video here:
As for who will be joining the team’s lineups, it’s in too early a stage to make any reality-based guesses. It’s not even clear how competitive he intends his teams to be in the space, if the teams will be French only, or how quickly he wants the 20-person teams formed. All the information we have is coming from the org’s Twitter and Instagram. Both are still relatively sparse at the moment.
As far as investing in esports, Greizmann isn’t exactly charting new territory for professional soccer players. In fact, you don’t even have to leave the locker room to find like-minded athletes. As Dexerto points, Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique has his competitive FIFA league eFootball.Pro.
Greizmann’s brother, Theo, is set to take over as the director of Grizi Esport, handling the day-to-day operations of the business while Antoine focuses on playing football with his feet rather than a controller.
As mentioned, it’s not yet clear what the next steps are for Grizi Esport, or how long this project has been in the works. If Greizmann’s celebration at the last World Cup is any indication, it’s possible that Grizi Esport has been in the back of his mind for quite some time.
