Nintendo Switch ports tend to be all the rage these days, so whenever we hear of a new Switch port, it comes as little surprise. There have been so many that any ports pitched are likely to already be on the console, but a significant port that has yet to be seen on the Nintendo Switch is the Mass Effect trilogy.

Legacy

Seen as a classic trilogy in gaming, the original three Mass Effect titles stand as some of the most impressive in the modern era. They tell a very original story of humanity’s and aliens’ last stand against certain destruction with fantastic writing, a keen sense of humor, and emotional moments. Evolving gameplay was also a definite win for the series and it had some of the best presentation of the last generation of consoles. In short, it was a terrific trilogy always worth revisiting and the best way to do that would be with a port to the Nintendo Switch.

Additionally, while a new Mass Effect game would be great (potentially), so would the ability to play Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 in your living room, on a plane, or in a cafe. Mass Effect: Andromeda had, unfortunately, put a bitter taste in fans’ mouths regarding what else could be done with the series. It turns out: nothing spectacular (for the moment). In the meantime, a Mass Effect trilogy done up with updated graphics and better performance on the Nintendo Switch would effectively allow for a whole new experience and would hopefully be more impressive than Mass Effect 3 on the Wii U.

Switching Gears

As it stands, 2020 doesn’t have a ton of Switch games on the docket. While there are inevitable indie releases and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, nothing big has really been confirmed for 2020. As such, a Mass Effect trilogy port would be the perfect way to pump life into the successful hybrid console come the routine summer drought. Some might prefer other Switch ports, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’s release, or a new Super Mario Galaxy, for instance.  However, it would be a great time to revisit one of the greatest trilogies in history with the option to fully play the games on the go.

But, the final question is: would EA be willing to port the trilogy to Switch. The company barely seems keen on the idea of a Mass Effect trilogy remaster. Further, EA believes its customers aren’t in demand of Switch ports. EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, indicated as such in the middle of last year when he said that EA fans would prefer to play the company’s games on competing systems. Therefore, EA’s mindset on a Mass Effect trilogy Switch port would likely fall in line with Wilson’s statements.

(Would-Be) Favorite Switch Port In The Citadel

The Nintendo Switch is unlikely to stop getting ports from other consoles anytime soon. And, as long, as games are being brought over, the first three Mass Effect games deserve a shot at a presence on the Switch. Narrative masterpieces and sci-fi game classics, a reminder of their impact on the industry in a Switch port would be among the best the Switch would have to offer.
