Activision may be beavering away on a new Crash Bandicoot game, judging by never-before-seen assets and character models seen in adverts (via games radar).

The evidence? In PlayStation’s new It’s Time to Play advert, a couple of characters from its first and third-party video games drop into the real world. Crash, Coco, and Dr. N. Cortex zoom around a multi-storey car park, and eagle-eyed fans have spotted a strange mask floating behind Crash. Masks have been a mainstay of the Crash Bandicoot series but this one is unique. Combine that discovery with a new character model for Crash seen on the side of a bus, and it all gets a mite intriguing.

But, Toys for Bob artist Nicholas Kole interacted with the riveting rumours when they quote-retweeted a fan’s screenshot of the mysterious mask. They’re a real wild card, to be honest, because Kole also retweeted a fan’s question about never-before-seen art pasted on the walls of Toys for Bob. Nothing has been said outright, but it certainly seems like Crash will return for one final lap before the PlayStation 5 overtakes this generation. Watch this space!

Leakers on 4Chan claim that the mask and Crash’s new look tally with the new Crash game that Activision is supposedly working on. Titled “Crash Bandicoot Worlds”, it would have a semi-open world, feature three new masks, and touch down in 2020. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled appeared at The Game Awards 2018, and if this game does exist and is set for 2020, that would be a rather convenient time to do a big announcement. This is not a confirmation, of course, because neither developer nor publisher have officially acknowledged the new assets.
