Fans who are eagerly awaiting the addition of Terry Bogard to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might not have to wait much longer. A recent trademark spotted in the upcoming Spirit Event has the SNK Corporation listed among them, suggesting Terry is close to arrival.
Terry’s arrival in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was initially spoiled by a trademark that was added to the fourth DLC character’s page before he was announced. The SNK trademark was added to the website before any character was revealed, but Terry was considered the most likely choice. He is the main character of the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series, after all.
Terry was officially revealed during the September 2019 Nintendo Direct, where he was given a tentative release date of November. Masahiro Sakurai showed off some footage of Terry in a Livestream that followed the Direct and it seemed as if Terry was far along in development.
It seems that Terry could be arriving by the end of the week. A Twitter user named NintenZ has pointed out that the trademarks for the upcoming Spirit Event will have the SNK Corporation trademark added to them. The next Spirit Event is based around sword- wielders and is due to begin on Friday, November 1. It’s possible that Terry will be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Friday.
It wouldn’t be out of character for Sakurai to shadow drop a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character with little promotion. That’s exactly what happened with Piranha Plant in February. Banjo-Kazooie was also dropped shortly after a Nintendo Direct without much build-up.
Terry might be the biggest outlier of the current crop of DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the Fatal Fury/The King of Fighters series doesn’t have the same appeal as a Persona or Dragon Quest representative. There have been plenty of times when representation in Super Smash Bros. has helped to change a fandom’s opinion of an established character and a powerful version of Terry in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might make fans want to check out the fighting games that he belongs to.
At any rate, Terry Bogard is due to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in next month.
