So, what have the developers learned from the Nioh 2 beta? Apparently, the bosses are too easy. Either that, or the player who wiped them all out using level 1 equipment is just beyond godlike (don’t worry, it’s the latter).
Now, we don’t know if you’ve heard, but FromSoftware has a penchant for making action RPGs that are… well, a little on the challenging side. Dark Souls, as everyone familiar with the gaming world can attest, has become the very last word in video game difficulty. The whole “harder than Dark Souls” thing has become a meme in its own right.
As such, players knew that Nioh was going to be no walk in the park either. This 2017 title was Team Ninja’s twist on the Dark Souls/FromSoftware formula. It was a very similar experience, in terms of aesthetic, progression and gameplay, but starring a character who was far more agile and mobile than the protagonists of Dark Souls and Bloodborne. The result was a ruthless action RPG that flowed in an incredibly satisfying way.
Nioh’s reception and success warranted a sequel, which is currently in the works. The beta ended on November 10, giving players an early glimpse at some of the hulking, terrifying new bosses that await in Nioh 2. Even at this early stage, it’s clear that the game is not going to take any prisoners, with many players taking a brutal, humbling beating at the hands of some of the bosses on offer. So, you thought you’d mastered Nioh back in 2017? Maybe you had, but that was a long time ago. You’ll have to get good all over again when the sequel release.
What’s the benchmark for being good? Well, how about tearing through a gauntlet of the beta’s bosses with level 1 equipment and not so much as a single level-up? As Destructoid reports, YouTube’s Poto2222 has done exactly this, and it’s mesmerizing. Just watch this whirling hurricane of skill, fury, and angry blades in action:
That, friends, is how you raise the bar. As the team collects the data from the beta, they’ll have to decide: will they buff all of the game’s bosses, or will they nerf Poto2222?
