After Little Town Hero debuted on Switch in October with less than favorable reviews, Destructoid reports that the company is trying again with a Playstation 4 version and its “Big Idea” collectors edition. This collectors edition was seen previously for its Switch release.

Little Town Hero had an uphill battle to gain popularity due to criticisms that it was taking resources Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield during its development. Game Freak was, after all, splitting its team to develop two games at once. The more news dropped about cut Pokémon, lackluster animations, and the inability to port over your favorites, the harsher those criticisms became.

When the title finally dropped it was met with mediocre to bad reviews, with GameSpot calling the small town “suffocating” and Destructoid’s reviewer saying she’d walk away from playing it in a “bad mood.”

The game follows a young boy named Ax whose town is invaded by monsters. The combat gives players a deck of cards in which to attack with the intention of removing “grind” to allow casual play. In practice, however, the Metacritic Critic reviews highlight a tedious game with an 18 hour runtime that slogs along. To summarize the critiques, the game is at its best in short bursts, but the boss battles drag on way too long for comfort.

This isn’t to say that some players don’t enjoy the title– it’s charming enough on its own right, and certainly looks good aesthetically. The highest reviews praise its cute visuals and wonderful soundtrack by Undertale’s Toby Fox. But with a 4.0 user review score on Metacritic, it’s safe to say the upcoming Playstation 4 edition of the game has an uphill battle ahead of it.

For those that want to get into this title by GameFreak and NIS America, the Playstation 4 version will be dropping in June and its “Big Idea” collectors edition includes a lot of goodies such as an art book, soundtrack and poster with a very reasonable price point of $50.00. The title is available now for Nintendo Switch.
