After some teasing earlier this week, indie developer The Behemoth has announced that its fifth game will be Alien Hominid Invasion. A brand new sequel in the series (after a 15-year hiatus), the devs promise this isn’t a remaster or remake of the game that put them on the map. This is an entirely new installment that will feature both single-player and co-op support.

On Twitter, the studio stated that this sequel will feature “new gameplay, progression, mechanics, & more.” For anyone going to PAX East at the end of February, The Behemoth will have something from Invasion on the show floor. It may be a little early for a demo, but likely a cinematic or some screenshots will hold us over.

If you’re looking to stay up-to-date on information for Invasion, make sure to bookmark the recently launched official website. It currently has just the teaser trailer, but a gigantic “STAY UPDATED” button will forward you to a mailing list. How delightfully old-school.

It’s been an incredibly long time since anyone has heard the name Alien Hominid. The first title developed by The Behemoth, the last time we saw a release in the series was with the 2005 port/remaster Alien Hominid HD. It seems someone at The Behemoth was foaming at the mouth to get back into this weird little shooter, which I can’t blame. Alien Hominid is great.

Many would have expected a second Castle Crashers installment since that game went to put The Behemoth on the map. I was more expecting something radically different. Each new title from the studio has been in a different genre. Color me surprised, but I kind of figured Alien Hominidwas done.

Either way, it’s nice to see the devs paying homage to their roots. Alien Hominid has made appearances in a couple of The Behemoth’s other games, but I have been itching to get back to invading Earth. Seeing as how this is a sequel, I wouldn’t mind if the HD original came to PC and modern platforms…just a suggestion.
