Gamers were left hugely disappointed that early demos of Alien Isolation on Oculus Rift never became a full experience, but the wait for an Alien-based virtual reality title will be over pretty soon.
The Fox Innovation Lab and Ridley Scott have announced a paid virtual reality experience based on Alien: Covenant for major VR platforms. Given Fox’s earlier The Martian VR Experience launched on HTC Vive, PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift, we assume the same will be true of Alien.
There’s no word on a release date or price point, but the film is due at Cinemas in May.
The Fox Innovation Lab describes the new Alien experience as “a dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe.”
The blurb continues: “Viewers will discover the true meaning of terror as they navigate through horrifying alien environments and a story where every decision could mean the difference between life and death.”
There’s currently no imagery for the game, but you can check out the recently released movie trailer below. In the film the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but things quickly turn nasty when the Xenomorphs show up.
