The high-end gaming desktop comes equipped with an AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor, which has 16 cores and 32 threads. This is AMD’s first OEM victory for the HEDT chip, which is mated with a special liquid cooling system for the CPU. Also disclosed by Alienware is that they would serve as the exclusive OEM launch partner to bring AMD Ryzen Threadripper pre-built computers to market.

The maximum GPU possibilities are dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti cards or three AMD Radeon RX 580 cards. The customized Triad chassis can ideally take three graphic cards complimenting the 60+4 PCIe 3.0 lanes and X399 chipset of Ryzen ThreadRipper. 

PSU choices range from 850W 80+ Bronze to 1500W 80+ Platinum to support this range of cards. Alienware also has AlienFX lighting on the chassis to meet all LED requirements.

When it comes to gaming, this machine shreds 4k games effortlessly. As a workstation for content creation, this beast takes anything you throw at it and churns output in record time.

Since the last upgrade in 2015, there haven’t been any significant changes to the design of this computer. You must create considerable space to accommodate the massive 62-pound beast. 

Design

This game system’s distinctive design is its best feature. The gaming PC stands out from the competition thanks to its oddly hexagonal body, which has three long and three short sides. It comprises a metal frame covered in plastic panels. The classic silver and black color schemes give it an appealing look. The curved sides of the computer have silver on their panels, while the back and front display a sleek black tone.

The Alienware Area-51 Threadripper’s parts tilt at a 45-degree angle. This design significantly improves airflow. Consequently, the system is able to push air toward the blower fan and the CPU liquid cooler. Another good thing about the design is that you can put it anywhere without worrying about ground clearance because the power supply unit and all the fans are at the bottom.

You can access the mounted 2TB SATA hard disc by opening the right-side door. The 1TB M.2 SSD boot drive is on the motherboard. Additional hard drives or SSDs can fit in the two 3.5-inch and two 2.5-inch bays available. The pre-wired free drive bays are a nice convenience for upcoming updates.

Carrying this rig around has been made easy by the rugged handles. The internal components’ architecture and shape have a low center of gravity by design.

Ports and Connectivity

Alienware Area-51 has both front and rear ports. On the front side, you get a microphone ⅛” port, headphone port, media card reader, and two superspeed 3.1 USB generation 1 type A ports.

The rear ports include a rear surround, ten USB ports, a side surround port, a center channel subwoofer, and a dual RJ 45 Ethernet port.

Cooling System

Alienware uses advanced liquid cooling technology through the biggest radiator available. The 120 x 120 x 48 mm radiator is manufactured with premium cold copper plates. Cooling the liquid that emerges from the Split Flow Copper CPU block is accomplished by a key fan that is fastened to the radiator. 

Using a double ceramic bearing, robust nylon tubing, and a 2850RPM pump cycle, it also has Alienware’s most quiet pump. You won’t ever overheat, even while you’re overclocked because passive heatsinks are built right into the chipset and voltage regulators.

AlienFX Lighting

AlienFX allows you to adjust the lighting in nine different programmable lighting zones. With more than 20 colors available, there are 512 trillion possible color combinations. Using the new AlienFX hardware, you can also save fresh themes, apply them to your games, and change peripheral settings.
