Call of Duty: Modern Warfare season 2 begins on February 11, but it remains relatively shrouded in mystery. Outside of just a few confirmed details, most of what is known about season 2 is derived from various Modern Warfare rumors and leaks.

While these should be taken with a grain of salt, there’s sometimes a lot of truth to various rumors and datamines, especially around a game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. As such, here’s every major detail revealed about season 2 revealed through these various leaks. It’s worth adding that CoD points, new blueprints, and new operator skins have all been mentioned as well but are generally expected anyway.

Confirmed Modern Warfare Season 2 Information

Infinity Ward has confirmed a few details for the upcoming season. Season one ends on the same day that season 2 beings: February 11. This is when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players can dive in and get a peek at the new Battle Pass and content. Furthermore, it has also confirmed the addition of Modern Warfare 2’s Ghost and fan-favorite map Rust. All of this is a step in the right direction for the franchise, but there’s plenty that should come out alongside it.

Modern Warfare Map Leaks

Other than the confirmation of Modern Warfare’s Rust, there hasn’t been too much in the way of which maps will be added this season. For the most part, it seems that a few small maps, a ground war map, and 6v6 maps are the biggest priority in the community, so there could be something there. Furthermore, in the brief seven second trailer for season 2, there appears to be a jet engine in the background (around the 5 second mark). This could indicate that Scrapyard is the aforementioned ground war map, but that remains to be seen.

Modern Warfare Gun and Game Mode Leaks

Via a leak from the Call of Duty website, the Grau 5.56 and Striker 45 have been confirmed as base weapons associated with season 2. A few other rumors point at a new LMG and the Ballistic Knife, but those have less weight for Modern Warfare.

  • Grau 5.56 - lightweight, maneuverable, and full of potential. Striker 45 - long range and hard hitting SMG. A New LMG Ballistic Knife

As far as game modes go, leaks dating back to January put One in the Chamber and All or Nothing in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The aforementioned Ballistic Knife rumor has also pointed some to think that Sticks and Stones would be a playable game mode, but that seems to be less likely. After all, these rumors hinge on one animation that could just be a simple animation.

  • One in the Chamber All or Nothing Sticks and Stones

It has also been confirmed that there are currently “no plans” for ranked play in Modern Warfare; in fact, it doesn’t even appear to be in development. Many think that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s SBMM is basically ranked play, so it remains to be seen how this is eventually handled.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Royale

A survey late last year asked what it would take for those who have tuned out of Modern Warfare to return. One of the most overwhelming answers was a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare battle royale map, which leaked well before launch and is all but officially confirmed to be in development. Rumors and signs have pointed to the battle royale mode coming soon, but on the other hand, others have indicated that the battle royale map has been delayed. This could mean that instead of appearing in season 2, it’ll appear in season 3.

Most of these leaks come from a recent leak via the Call of Duty website, adding a lot of credence to at least some of these ideas. However, it’s worth noting that the battle royale map has not been mentioned there, meaning that the delay could be a legitimate thing. This won’t likely be mentioned by Infinity Ward, though, so it’ll be interesting to see how this Modern Warfare battle royale mode comes into play…however long that takes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
