Oculus Rift users got a lovely surprise today, they discovered they could not use the VR hardware.
In what appears to have been an oversight by Oculus, Rift users started to receive the message “Cant Reach Oculus Runtime Services”. These basically locked users out of using the hardware due to an expired certificate from the OculusAppFramework.dll.
Oculus is now aware of the situation and posted a tweet to acknowledge the cock-up.
We’re aware of an issue affecting Rift on PC, and we’re working on resolving now. Stay tuned.

So far there is only one workaround and that’s to change the date on your PC to a couple of days prior to today so the certificate thinks it’s still valid. Probably not a great idea to do this but if you’re really desperate for some VR action then it will work.
Our advice is to hang on until Oculus sort this rather embarrassing problem out.
