Not too long ago, former and current Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players were asked in a survey what it would take to bring them back into the first-person shooter. The answers made it abundantly clear that Modern Warfare needs its battle royale mode sooner rather than later, and since then, it seems that it’s even closer to becoming a reality.
It’s worth noting that that battle royale modes and games have seemingly begun to slow down, as after the explosive debut of Fortnite’s battle royale mode, it seems everyone decided to get it on it. Since then, that has slowed down a lot. That’s not to say that current battle royale games are trending downward, just that there doesn’t seem to be a new battle royale game announced every few weeks now. Neither does that mean that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare shouldn’t capitalize on the popular gameplay mode, as there is murmuring for it in the latest CoD entry.
With more glitches and leaks for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s battle royale mode popping up, it’s worth revisiting what is currently thought about for the upcoming game mode.
Call of Duty: Battle Royale Mode Leaks and Rumors
Rumors for CoD’s battle royale mode began even before the game itself released. At the time, it was said to feature a 200-player battle royale mode, combine multiple Spec Ops locations, and be much larger than the Blackout map from Black Ops 4. Notably, there hasn’t been any information to really contradict this since then, as there’ usually some type of conflicting information out there, and this bodes well for the next point: that it would release some time in early 2020.
In lieu of the leaks and Season 2 set to begin in just 10 days’ time, it’s hard to see how the two events wouldn’t correspond. Of course, there always the chance it doesn’t release alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 2, but there’s been a few more recent bugs, glitches, and leaks that say otherwise, all of which pertain to its battle royale map.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Royale Map
Prior leaks have stated that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare battle royale map would consist of the following named locations: Airfield, Boneyard, Dam, Downtown, Gulag, Hospital, Layover, Lumber, Overgrown, Port, Quarry, Storage Town, Supercenter, Trainyard, and TV Station. It would also include various points of interests like a bank, fire station, gas station, gun store, pharmacy, and police station.
Interestingly enough, the above image appears to be a leaked loading screen for Modern Warfare’s battle royale mode, and it seemingly coincides with the aforementioned leak. This could easily be the Port location that fans would be facing off with others in, so this does have some credibility.
Perhaps the biggest factor is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players have actually been able to see the battle royale map on numerous occasions. At the beginning of December, there was a glitch in Modern Warfare that let players view the entire map from the sky, obviously not well enough to fully flesh it out, and this was followed by another method that let players also explore a small piece of it.
Sometimes, rumors and leaks prove to be just that, but then sometimes there’s such an overwhelming amount that anything else would be incredibly surprising. The glitches, perhaps, add the most credence to the idea that Modern Warfare’s battle royale map is almost ready, but the strong, pre-launch leaks, the loading screen leak, and more have all helped build the idea that it’s happening. While its exact release date remains to be seen, fans shouldn’t be surprise to see it arrive sometime in Modern Warfare season 2.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
