When a new Marvel film drops, not only can audiences generally expect a good time, but they also know to stay during the credits to get either a sneak peek at upcoming developments or extra scenes that flesh out the adventure that just passed on the big screen. With Thor: Love and Thunder next in line, it is no exception to this rule in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, if you’re wondering about all the post-credits scenes in Thor: Love and Thunder, read on with caution.
Obviously, we are venturing into spoilers territory when it comes to both the film and its potential impact on future MCU entries. If you would like to enjoy the show without knowing what comes after, this is the time to turn back.
Thor: Love and Thunder Post-Credits Scenes Explained
The events of Thor: Love and Thunder see Thor, Mighty Thor, King Valkyrie, and Korg putting together a plan in order to save the children of Asgard from being butchered by Gorr, the central villain in the film. For the plan to work, it will require an army of Gods, but unfortunately, Zeus, the King of Gods, is not exactly open to the idea. Having attacked Korg, Thor retaliates and seemingly kills Zeus.
Mid-Credits Scene
Of course, it is not that easy to kill a god, and the mid-credits scene brings us back to Zeus, who is nursing his wounds after being attacked by Thor. Never one to take things lying down, the King of Gods speaks to a figure off-screen about bringing Thor down before the camera pans out to reveal that he was talking to Hercules (Brett Goldstein), who is tasked to avenge Zeus.
Who Is Hercules?
First appearing in 1965’s Journey Into Mystery Annual #1, the mighty Hercules has been a key figure in the world of the comics, having his own godly adventures while joining the Avengers from time to time. With Thor: Love and Thunder introducing more deities into the mix, it won’t be a surprise to see Hercules and others in the pantheon of gods appearing in future films, especially when Zeus is looking for payback.
Post-Credits Scene
As for the full post-credits scene, we get to witness the seemingly final fate of Dr Jane Foster AKA Mighty Thor. Just like in the comics, her origins as the heroine stem from her wielding of Mjölnir, but it also weakens her by worsening her cancer. Foster appears to suffer the same fate with a sacrificial but heroic death in the film as well.
This allows her to enter what appears to be Valhalla, the hall of fallen heroes located in Asgard. Here, she is greeted by another familiar face in that of Heimdall (Idris Elba), who perished back in Avengers: Infinity War. This could very well be the last time we’ll see Jane Foster, but it does appear to be a fitting end to her arc in the MCU.
That’s everything you will need to know about the post-credits scenes in Thor: Love and Thunder. If you are here somehow having not watched the movie, be sure to check out the full runtime so you can plan your day for MCU fun. Otherwise, be sure to search Twinfinite for everything else.
