Overwatch 2 is nearly here, and many are wondering if Blizzard’s latest FPS will support crossplay and cross progression.
There’s nothing worse than being unable to play with your friends just because they’re on a different platform, and especially for a multiplayer focused game like Overwatch 2.
Blizzard’s latest hero shooter will arrive on Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox Series S / Xbox Series X and PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5. We’re following the Overwatch 2 release right up until the point of launch.
Here’s everything you need to know about Overwatch 2 crossplay and cross progression.
Is Overwatch 2 crossplay?
Yes, Overwatch 2 will support crossplay. The sequel is following the lead of the original Overwatch, which started supporting Crossplay in June of 2021.
You’ll have to sign up for a Battle.net account in order to play Overwatch 2 – and this is what will allow crossplay to work. Visit the Battle.net website to sign up, and click on the ‘Connections’ tab to link your console of choice.
Does Overwatch 2 cross progression?
Yes. Regardless of where you play Overwatch 2, your unlocked cosmetics and characters will be able to come with you. Again, this will be facilitated via Battle.net.
If you had Overwatch 1, you should’ve already started the Account Merge process – as it’s been available since August 16. But if not, here’s what you need to know.
If your console account hasn’t automatically been detected – then login to the original game and follow the on-screen prompts. You’ll be asked to scan a QR code on your phone.
Then enter the code on your console to connect your accounts. Once you’re done – you’ll be asked to confirm.
Also be aware you can only merge one of each account per platform. So if you’ve got two Xbox accounts, or two PC accounts for whatever reason, you’ll have to pick only one of each to merge with each other.

After merging your accounts, all progress is then stored going forward on your Battle.net account. Be aware that, though you can unlink your console accounts from Battle.net at any time, there’s a one year cooldown to add new accounts.
If you don’t confirm to merge your accounts in-game, on trying to launch Overwatch 1 you’ll be served a in-game screen that prompts you to merge your accounts and approve the merge.
PC players meanwhile, will find their Overwatch progress already merged into Overwatch 2.
Is Overwatch 2 crossplay with PC and PS4?
Yes, Overwatch 2 supports crossplay and so PC players will be able to play with those on PS4.
Is Overwatch cross platform 2022?
Yes. Overwatch 2 is cross platform and also supports cross progression. This means that if you own the Nintendo Switch, a gaming PC, Xbox Series X / S or PlayStation 4 /5 you’ll be able to play with friends regardless of the system they are playing on.
