PlayStation 4’s ability to render some games in a higher resolution is the biggest reason why consumers are choosing Sony’s console over Xbox One, a new study has revealed.
According to a report by Nielsen, ‘better resolution’ is the number one reason why fans choose to pick up a PS4, followed by its functionality as a Blu-ray player and its ‘Game Library’.
Meanwhile, Xbox One users are mainly choosing to pick up the console due to their loyalty to the Xbox brand and its “innovative features”.
‘Resolutiongate’ has caused a stir amongst the community following the launch of the two consoles in 2013, with a number of multiplatform games boasting an increased resolution on PS4.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Watch Dogs, Dying Light, Battlefield 4 and more all boast a higher resolution on PS4, and the trend doesn’t appear be coming to an end any time soon.
Next month’s Battlefield Hardline is also expected to render at just 720p on Xbox One and 900p on PS4.
PS4 has sold over 18.5 million units since launching in November 2013, with the last official count from Microsoft coming in at almost 10 million units for Xbox One.
It’s no real surprise to see players opting to choose a new console that offers greater performance. In fact, I thought Xbox One’s 720p problem could be the “biggest deal-breaker yet” to those looking up to pick up a new console way back in October 2013.
