With every new trailer released, it’s becoming increasingly evident that the developers of Crysis 2 have been using their imagination when it comes to the various ways that their fictional technology will be implemented in gameplay.
Crytek Studios already released one tutorial video, familiarizing players with the different ways that they can upgrade and customize their Nanosuits for online play. Now we bring you the next installment of Crysis 2’s multiplayer walkthrough, telling all you need to know about the vast array of weaponry at your disposal.
The developers have explained that the New York setting will give Crysis 2 unique levels of vertical combat, so players will need to keep track of enemies not only to the left or right, but above or below them as well. That’s no small challenge, but luckily players will have plenty of ways to gain an edge over the competition.
We’ve seen Crysis 2’s stealth strategies used in the campaign section of the game, and the trailer confirms that fans of the online game modes will have the same opportunity to exploit the Nanosuit’s invisibility.
That certainly won’t be the only trick up their sleeves, as the latest trailer details the various weaponry available to players, and a few looks at the vast system of upgrades and weapon load-outs.
The developers really seem to be keeping their word of giving players the chance to craft their own soldier, so have a look at the weapons and attachments you’ll have to choose from:
Aside from the standard upgrades available in nearly every modern shooter - laser sights, silencers, and scopes - Crysis 2 will be bringing in a few additions from other franchises. The hologram projections seen in the trailer have major potential, and are available to those who pick up the Limited Edition of the game.
The projections proved an invaluable tool in Halo: Reach’s multiplayer, and the brief glimpses of infrared vision and electrically-charged weapons promise a fresh experience.
With so many different upgrades, there are limitless possibilities for each weapon. As has become the standard, each upgrade will need to be purchased with the in-game currency, gained by dominating your opposition in creative ways.
To get an idea of the variety available, take a look at a few screens of Crysis 2’s weapon customization menus:

In case the amount of choices seems a bit daunting, take comfort in the fact that there will be a few chances to get familiar with Crysis 2’s multiplayer before having to purchase the game. Xbox Live has its own playable demo of Crysis 2, and Crytek also announced that there will soon be a PS3 demo as well.
If that isn’t enough to convince you that Crytek is doing everything they can to make their online community as welcoming as possible, we also know that Crysis 2 won’t require an online pass for access.
With Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, and now Crysis 2 packing serious multiplayer punch, do you think this year has the potential to break a few records for online play?
We’ll let you know if and when that happens, but first you’ll have to try your hand at Crysis 2, set to release on March 22 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
