In what could be some of the most unintentionally funny news we’ve heard in a while, Kaz Yamauchi, the man in charge over at Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital, said that fans of the legendary franchise won’t have to wait very long for Gran Turismo 6.
We probably won’t hold Yamauchi to his word, considering the lengthy development process, and numerous delays Gran Turismo 5 experienced.
Check out the quote:
I’m sure Yamauchi is a busy guy, but maybe someone should tell him that Gran Turismo 5 still isn’t out yet. That same person may also want to tell him that when it comes to making release predictions, he should probably just keep it zipped. Remember when Gran Turismo 5 was going to be a PS3 launch title? Whether you do or don’t, Yamauchi would rather you didn’t dwell on that particular promise.
“You won’t have to wait as long as you did for GT5. GT5 was basically the creation of a whole new operating system, and developing GT6 will be like adding new applications that run on that new operating system."
Although, as far as promises go, he is leaving himself a pretty big window. It will have been five years since GT4. So he could just repeat the same launch gap between GT3 and GT4, which was still four years, and not a single one of us would be able to call him a liar.
I realize I’m being hard on the guy, but, seriously, why would you even bring it up right now? You’ve had launch windows come and go for GT5. You have Microsoft scrambling to put together a release to compete with yours. You have gamers drooling over a pretty solid collector’s edition. And with the release allegedly right around the corner, you decide to tease the next installment to a game we’ve been waiting half a decade for, a game that still isn’t out yet? I have to imagine some PR person off to the side rushing him off faster than Robert Pattison when he gets asked a Kristin Stewart pregnancy question.
What do you think Ranters? Can we just laugh this one off for the boneheaded comment? Should we expect to see Duke Nuke’em get multiple games before GT6 even crosses our minds? While there is some validity to his point of not having to take the time to build from scratch, do we really believe that Polyphony Digital would rush out another title before it was perfect?
Even if we don’t see Gran Turismo 6 in our lifetimes, Gran Turismo 5 is still scheduled to be released on November 2nd exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
