Homefront’s largely successful first week was overshadowed by the bad news that THQ’s stock dropped a dollar in the first day, and reports that many console players were having issues with their games. Most notable were allegations that some Xbox 360 players were unable to get past the Kaos logo and reach the game’s main menu.
Kaos Studios responded quickly announcing that they were working on Homefront patches for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 patch for Homefront is officially live, hopefully fixing the freezing issues that players have been experiencing.
The announcement also claims that Kaos is hard at work on improvements to the game, as well as a wide range of DLC for Homefront. Nothing has been said about what the DLC will contain, but hopefully it’s not just additional weapons and challenges. At any rate, we may not have long to wait as the DLC is expected to be revealed in the near future.
What would be nice is some DLC that takes players inside San Fransisco following the game’s concluding moments, and really taking the game’s stakes to the next level. The ending to Homefront felt like a massive tease, which is rare for the first game in a new property. Choosing to end the game they did was definitely a risky choice on Kaos’s part, but they don’t seem to be afraid of their risks not paying off.
The developer has gone on record stating that they believe multiplayer and DLC are going to keep Homefront’s sales strong. Additional content will certainly help make Homefront a more profitable property for THQ as development costs for DLC are generally lower than those of a complete game.
Not that THQ really has to worry about Homefront’s success. After its launch in Europe, the game managed to overtake the 1 million-units-mark worldwide while already having shipped 2.4 million units globally. This puts THQ’s latest IP well on its way to reaching the 2 million units Homefront needs to be profitable.
Were you one of the gamers that had the freeze issue affect their Xbox 360 version of the game? What would you like to see from Homefront’s first DLC?
Gamers can defend their Homefront now on their PC, PS3, Xbox 360, or OnLive.
