Following the festive holiday Wintertide Event that took place for a limited time in December, 2022, Apex Legends has returned with yet another limited time event, known as the Spellbound Collection Event.
With this fun new event comes not only a handful of new cosmetics and updates, but it also returns with a fun game mode called ‘Control’. For those of you that are new to Apex Legends, or maybe have yet to hear about this mode, you’ve come to the right place.

The new Spellbound Event went live in Apex Legends on January 10th, 2023. And with the event active for a few days now, it doesn’t hurt to get reacquainted or familiarized with the game mode.
On that note, let’s dive right in and see what the new Control Mode is all about in Apex Legends.
Apex Legends: Control Mode
The Control game mode is a straightforward one. The objective is to control three zones on the map, zones A, B, and C. Upon securing a zone, it will earn you points every second unless another team takes it over.
The more zones you own, the better your chances will be to come away victorious. Control has a 1,250 point limit in order to win, so it grants players plenty of time to contend for points while keeping the longevity of the game mode at a reasonable length that doesn’t drag on for too long.
This year, you will be able to play Control on three different maps on Apex Legends. These include Storm Point: Barometer, World’s Edge: Lava Siphon, and Olympus: Hammond Labs.
The best part about Control is that players can respawn every time they are eliminated and fairly quickly too. So you don’t have to wait on your teammates to finish the round, as was the case on the Winter Express for the Wintertide Event.
In addition, players can not only select their loadouts and legends, but can also switch both mid-game as well. So should you not be feeling a certain weapon class or Legend, you can change them up during your Control game, which allows you to try out new weapons but also explore different tactics depending on the Legend you’re using.
The closest comparison of this game mode is that of Domination in Call of Duty. Whoever can control the zones the longest, will score the most points and win the game.
Control Mode Updates
This isn’t the first time Apex Legends has added the Control game mode into its playlists. In fact, the Control mode was featured four different times in Apex Legends over 2022, and in the process, has become a fan favorite within the community.
Though Control has returned for a fifth time with not a whole lot of changes to the mode itself, EA is constantly making small tweaks and adjustments each time it comes back to Apex, not only improving the game mode, but also the gaming experience as well.
For the newest edition of this limited time Control Mode, Apex Legends made a series of updates that are worth making note of since it last dropped. Here’s the full list:
