Capcom has officially announced MotoGP 10/11 and taken the wraps off many of the game’s features in the process. The game is set to race home in March 2011 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and will provide content from the 2010 MotoGP season, while offering downloadable updates for the 2011 MotoGP championship shortly after the season starts. From the look of updates and features, Capcom and developer Monumental Games are looking to deliver more than just a cookie-cutter sequel.
The game will feature an all-new handling system and improved physics. There will also be brand new customizable player assists, allowing players that favor a more arcade or simulation racing style to alter player assists. Players that want a more arcade-like feel can turn on more player assists, while gamers looking for the more authentic feel can turn off all player assists.
Championship and Time Trial modes are back, along with Career mode, which now supports local co-op play, so a second player can jump into the race and become a team mate. A revised Challenge mode helps round out the package. And like in MotoGP 09/10, MotoGP 10/11 will allow 20 players to compete online in championship races. Players will also be able to choose their racing settings and join a mid-race spectator mode when online.
The game looks to bring the action and excitement of MotoGP racing home. Twenty-player online racing is pretty incredible and the inclusion of spectator mode is a nice touch, too. While Capcom took a similar approach with MotoGP 09/10, in that the 2010 content was made available via download after the game released, it seems a little odd to purchase a game with only a promise of future features to come. While Capcom and Monumental Games likely have every intent of delivering the 2011 content, things change, and buying a game for some future undetermined content seems like purchasing a digital IOU. But MotoGP 09/10 did deliver the goods, and MotoGP 10/11 looks to do the same while bringing even more to the table.
