Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today released the single player demo for Motorstorm Apocalypse, the latest outing for the hugely popular PlayStation exclusive Motorstorm franchise. The demo, from UK based developer Evolution Studios has arrived in anticipation of the release of the full game, which is set for March 16 in Europe.

The demo, playable in both 2D and 3D, is available throughout Europe now, and will require a smidgen over 1.2GB of the PlayStation 3’s hard drive space. There is no word on an American release date for the demo as of yet, but rest assured, it won’t be too far away.

The demo is single player only, and will feature Mainline - Off the Rails, one of the forty individual races that the full game is set to include. Two of the thirteen vehicle types will also be playable in the demo, the Supercar and Superbike, which are new additions to the action races within Motorstorm Apocalypse. The two new vehicles will accompany the Superminis, Muscle Cars, and Choppers that will also be new to the full game.

As excitement builds for the game’s release, the demo offers a small taste of what’s to be expected from the full version, and whilst ‘Off the Rails’ is a rookie track, players will get a good idea of the carnage that takes place throughout the races in Apocalypse, as well as the procedural graphics that ensure no track remains the same for any longer than one lap. If the demo is anything to go by, Motorstorm Apocalypse is going to be a blast!

In addition to the release of the demo, Sony are hosting a launch party for the game at a top secret London location this coming Thursday, March 10. We aren’t allowed to share many details about the event just yet, but it’s called Motorstorm Apocalypse Live, and will be streaming live here from 13:45 PST. Teams of gamers and journalists from around the UK will be facing off for the chance to win a trip to E3, under what can only be described as extreme conditions. Better still, online viewers will be able to play an active part in choosing said conditions. Game Rant’s very own Phillipe Bosher and Terry Lucy will be participating in the event, so be sure to tune in to watch them (hopefully) race their way to Apocalyptic glory!

Motorstorm Apocalypse is hitting shelves on March 16 in Europe, April 14 in the US, and is exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
