The first Mortal Kombat game appeared in arcades over 20 years ago and instantly changed the video game history. The franchise is arguably the most successful ever, with the latest Mortal Kombat 11 being the best-selling game in April 2019. Over the years, Mortal Kombat managed to gain massive amounts of praise and fans. It is the one name that instantly stands out when it comes to fighting games, with Street Fighter and Tekkenbeing the only real competition in terms of popularity....

It might be hard to believe, but the first The Sims game came out almost twenty years ago. Although simplistic compared to games nowadays, it paved the way for the rest of the series and created a genre of games where The Sims franchise has remained uncontested for years. No doubt the best life simulation out there, the series has grown a lot after taking off from its very first installment....

Creating characters is one of the most fun aspects of playing Dungeons and Dragons. The possibilities for what you can create are endless and limited only by your own imagination and whatever rules the Dungeon Master lays down. Sometimes though, working out of imagination can be challenging. Perhaps you’ve been playing the game for years and you just aren’t sure what to create next. We’ve all had a great time taking down some of the amazing beasts that Monster Hunter has to offer, but What now? There’s no cut-and-dry answer as to why people play video games. As I sit here and write this, I’ve got a movie playing in the background. I’m not paying attention to it much. Evolution. Most Pokémon have at least one evolved form for trainers to work towards. Aside from the obvious change in appearance, evolution gives you stronger Pokémon with new moves and in some cases learnsets that really help you out as a trainer throughout your adventure. Pokémon either have one or two evolved forms, usually triggered by simply leveling the Pokémon up. It isn’t always as simple as that, however, and there are plenty of alternative methods out there, depending on which Pokémon you’re trying to evolve....

Gaming accessories come in all shapes and sizes. Many offer a new way to play games, others refine standard features and some just look great. From cutting edge controllers through to huge leaps in motion technology. Over the years there have been some fantastic developments in controller technology which have really added to the gaming experience. Then there have been others which, well really didn’t. We are living in the age of remakes and remasters. With the technology powering video games growing in leaps and bounds in quick succession with each passing generation, a video game of old whose true potential wasn’t fully realized thanks to the limited capabilities of the hardware it was released on can be reborn with superior gameplay mechanics, re-designed sound, and shiny new graphics. Re-releases of games have been common, with old generation games released on newer consoles in order to promote a certain franchise and give younger players the opportunity to play these games....

Vegeta: a name synonymous with the Dragon Ball series and as recognizable as main character Goku. Possibly even more, in fact, as the Saiyan prince has managed to defeat his eternal rival in several official character popularity polls. It wouldn’t be the first time the “bad boy anti-hero” character would end up more popular than the straight-laced protagonist, as characters such as Naruto’s Sasuke and My Hero Academia’s Bakugo can attest to....

Growing up in the early 2000s, there was a handful of shows that I would consider as my “go-to” tv shows every single day after coming home from school. Among those shows were cartoons like Jackie Chan Adventures, Pokémon, Static Shock, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. While all of those shows were great in their own right, none of them were my favorite. That special honor was reserved for one of my favorite cartoons of all time, Yu-Gi-Oh....

Pokémon as a franchise has delivered some pretty iconic figures over the years, right from the get-go, Brock was one of these. Taking Pokémon’s colorful cast of elemental monsters aside for a moment, Pokémon delivers genuinely likable human characters – in all its mediums. Similar to our recent trip into Sabrina and LT. A terminal cancer patient will be playing Borderlands 3 before all of us get to as part of a very classy move by publishers 2K. The third installment from the popular Gearbox franchise isn’t due for release until September 13 but Trevor Eastman should be lootin’ and shootin’ as early as the beginning of next month following some strong support from the gaming community. The 27-year-old has been diagnosed with stage four esophageal stomach and liver cancer and was given a year to live....

Developing video games can be a tough occupation in the industry today. Unless you’re Bethesda or Ubisoft, everything has to be refined to the point where everything looks and moves so fluently and flawless. Glitches can be so common in video games, whether they would be ones to completely deform the looks of characters and objects in the virtual world, or neat little tricks gamers can discover to go where they are not supposed to, it can be hard to find a game that is perfectly polished....

The Xbox One is a pretty damn good console. Sure, a lot of people hate it and the dashboard is still a mystery, but if you take a step back and think about it, there’s a lot to love. More importantly than that, however, is how influential the Xbox brand has been on all of gaming. Who knows where we would be if Microsoft hadn’t come across and stuck themselves into the industry....

Say what you will about Nintendo, but they know how to do one thing very well: Play on the childhood nostalgia of their beloved franchises. Whether it’s drudging up old characters for a Super Smash Bros. game, re-releasing a classic for the Nintendo Virtual Console, or remaking an oldie for a new generation, I can’t think of any other game company that banks on nostalgia quite so hard and manages to pull it off....

A new Tony Hawk game might be happening, because art punk band The Death Set revealed that it has licensed five songs for a “Tony Hawk 2020” game (via Push Square). Still, it isn’t confirmed. These are only suppositions, and Activision is yet to acknowledge the reports on a new game. The last Tony Hawk’s title to be released was Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 in 2015… and history isn’t kind to that game....
