There’s something very satisfying about celebrating the anniversaries of our favorite gaming franchises. They serve as reminders to pause and look back to see just how far games have come in just a few decades. In 2023, we’ll be recognizing big milestone anniversaries for several major gaming franchises as well as a handful of individual games that have had a significant impact on the industry. Specifically, many of our favorites are turning 10, 25, 35, and even 45 years old in 2023....

Borderlands 3 has enjoyed immense success since its launch. In a report from 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive, the game has performed better than any other 2K title in many categories. The Borderlands franchise is now the second in 2K history to generate $1 billion from customer purchases. The third entry in the series sold 50% more copies than Borderlands 2 in the five days after launch. Digital copies comprised 70% of the sales and, in the history of the Epic Store, Borderlands 3 is the most-preordered game....

Every console generation, we have those mega-hits that are completely unavoidable. These games, such as Red Redemption 2, completely take the industry by storm, and change the way that we think of gaming as a whole. These games often end up as some of the highest selling titles of the whole generation. And then, there are the games that receive the same amount of recognition, even when it’s not really deserved....

Battleborn may have been a pretty decent game, but it clearly wasn’t longed for this world. Ever since its release three years back, the game has failed to catch on like developer Gearbox Software thought it would. Now, it looks like publisher 2K games is ready to put the title out to pasture. After a long time, Apple announced last month that Mythic Quest was renewed for a third, and fourth season. Since then, everybody has been waiting for the show to come back. The third season will finally be released on Friday, Nov. 11, with new adventures for Ian (Rob McElhenney), Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao), and the rest of the team. Mythic Quest started as another workplace sitcom. Let’s be honest, the fourth installment of the Sims franchise has been a disappointment, to say the least. A game set in the universe of horror film series A Quiet Place is in development with an aim to launch in 2022, it’s been announced. The press release for the game says it’ll be a single-player, story driven horror adventure. The game will be set in the universe of the movies directed by and starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. However, there’s no word on if the Abbot Family Krasinski and Blunt play will feature in the game....

This September, Transformers arrives in the naval warfare title, World of Warships. In what seems like an unlikely crossover, Autobots and Decepticons will be introduced to the game. They’ll take shape as themed ship skins and commanders, in an update due in September. Other new content includes special Transformers containers, dedicated game tasks and combat missions, expendable camouflages, commemorative flags and patches, and more. Four iconic Transformers characters will be released initially, as unique ship skins and commanders....

Activision Blizzard’s chief compliance officer, Frances Townsend, is stepping down. Bloomberg reports that Townsend - who also serves as executive vice president of corporate affairs - will step down ahead of Microsoft’s billion pound deal to acquire Activision (if it goes through, of course). Townsend will, however, remain with the company as an advisor to the board and CEO Bobby Kotick, although his future at the company is also in doubt if and when the acquisition goes through....
