Whether you like it or hate it, Netflix’s The Witcher series has been the topic of many conversations this week. From folks talking about the irritatingly catchy song I refuse to name, to speculation on the next season, The Witcher has starred in many a discussion lately. One such subject, however, is the impact the show has on the game series by CD Projekt RED. According to Steam Database, more people are playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt now than when the game launched more than four years ago....

With the Coronavirus currently leading to a number of events and big releases being canceled, it’s clear that the media industry will likely be taking a massive hit for the rest of 2020. F9, the latest entry in the Fast and Furious saga, was delayed earlier today, being pushed back as far as April next year, while a number of major esports events and major gaming conventions have been flat out canceled....

Cutler is unapologetically a Dungeons & Dragons fan. His entrance music even chants “TPK,” a DnD term for Total Party Kill. But the latest addition to Cutler’s gimmick may be the most impressive yet, as his wardrobe receives an epic upgrade....

Colopl and Mages announced that the mobile game Alice Gear Aegis is making the jump to consoles. During a livestream broadcasted to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the mobile game on January 22, Colopl showcased the key visual for the game, which will come at some point in 2022. While platforms have not been explicitly announced, it’s confirmed to come for consoles. It will be developed by Mages’ 5pb arm. A teaser site has also been opened....

Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends is shaping up to have quite the holiday season. On that note, Christmas seems to be bringing much more than snowfall to the game including a brand new event, and it seems even the characters will be dressing up for the holiday festivities in the newest update. Since its February release, the studio’s take on the battle-royale genre has gone through three seasons so far, each adding additional content in the form of new characters, new weapons, and new cosmetics to be earned or purchased over a three to four month period....

Destiny 2’s Sails of the Shipstealer is a quest running throughout Season of Plunder. Each season, Destiny 2 has a story which updates with new steps each week - requiring you to collect season-specific currency and activities to progress. In Season of Plunder, this is finding Treasure Coordinates and Map Fragments, which will in turn allow you to dig up treasure using Treasure Maps from Expeditions. Confused? Though it might not be high on the list of anticipated movie tie-in games, Kung Panda 2 has a chance to be a real standout with the ways in which it asks the player to interact. Silent Hill has delivered some of the scariest experiences in all of gaming. Unfortunately, the series has been mostly stagnant for the last decade, only having a few spin-offs trickle out during the tail end of the last console generation alongside the poorly received Silent Hill HD Collection. However, gaming’s other great horror series, Resident Evil, has seen an incredible resurgence after a few less than stellar entries, so there’s no reason why Silent Hill can’t make a comeback....

Jedi: Fallen Order is made by Respawn, the makers of Apex Legends and Titanfall 2, and just like those two titles, Fallen Order is a masterclass sort of game. And, even better, since EA has the rights to make Star Wars canon games, all of this title actually matters in the greater Star Wars plotline! So, what did Cal Kestis, the absolutely boring but relatively competent Jedi, actually add to the canon?...

The video game industry is built off of sequels and spin-offs, and it’s not hard to see why. Have a new idea but scared it won’t sell? Don’t worry, slap an already popular franchise on it and wait for the cash to flow in! Fans of the series will gobble it up, and those who weren’t into it before might be interested in a new genre or starting point. What constitutes a spin-off may differ from person to person....
