With Sonic The Hedgehog celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year, a mystery appeared on the internet as to just how Sega would promote this auspicious occasion. The obvious answer was a new game, but how would the game play? Would it focus on the nostalgia of the 2D era, or try to give a good 3D experience not seen since the Sonic Adventure games? Well, the new game was officially announced, and Sonic Generations answers that question: both....

Arcades are seeing resurgence, and not just in niche Gaming Bars. Similar to the miniature versions of the original NES companies are re-releasing, there has been a steady stream of small arcade cabinets coming out. They range anywhere from $200-300, or more and contain, one, or a few games inside. Two years ago, I praised 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim for its fun RTS combat and its visuals. Vanillaware truly outdid themselves with this one; the game is great at consistently stunning the player with its jaw-dropping pastel colored vistas and glorious mech robots. Outside of the combat, you can tell that a lot of care has been taken with virtually every scene in the game and it’s just a pleasure to look at....

So the release of The Last Jedi has come and gone, with the results being pretty divided between love and hate. Personally, I loved it, but I’m not going to stand here and tell you it wasn’t heavily flawed. There were definitely some seriously messed up decisions made in that artistic process, but I think this is kind of a “swing for the fences” kind of scenario, when it worked, it knocked it out of the park, but it missed a lot....

If you’re a more casual Pokémon fan, chances are the competitive scene doesn’t really appeal to you. As is, the Pokémon games already have plenty of single player content to wade through. You’ve got the main story, a post game, and hundreds upon hundreds of unique Pokémon to collect. For many, that’s all the fill they need to feel satisfied with Pokémon. For others, the single player isn’t nearly enough. The more extreme fans look towards the competitive scene to quench their thirst, abiding by all the newfound rules suddenly thrust upon them....

Gaming certainly saw its ups and downs for 2018. Red Dead Redemption 2 swept the board in terms of positive fan reception, Fallout 76 completely polarized longtime fans of the series, and Fortnite… somehow managed to win Game of the Year? Perhaps you may have heard that CD Projekt Red is working on a game called Cyberpunk 2077, an RPG based on a tabletop game called Cyberpunk 2020. Monolith Soft surprised Nintendo fans everywhere with its announcement of a lavish, open-world RPG called Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii in 2010. I wasn’t sure what to really expect from A Memoir Blue. It was first widely revealed during Annapurna’s summer showcase last year, but without an accompanying developer interview like some of the other titles. Back in 2006, the Saints Row franchise started life as an open-world game reminiscent of the Grand Theft Auto titles in terms of its premise and gameplay. Its sequel, Saints Row 2, followed more or less the same formula. But starting with Saints Row: The Third, the series began to veer in a more outlandish direction. Currently, the racing game market is dominated by two series: Forza and Gran Turismo.
