Madden Creative Director, Ian Cummings, and EA Sports Chief Technology Officer, Richard Wifall, have both left their employment with EA. Word of Cummings departure was made via the Madden NFL 12 official blog, while Wifall took to Twitter to announce the end of his EA Sports tenure. While departures are nothing new in the video-game world or in any other profession, these two might receive a little extra scrutiny just because they are happening during the time leading up to Madden NFL 12’s release....
Super Meat Boy hit XBLA over two months ago and came to PCs everywhere in the past month via Steam (which recently had a very good deal on the game not too long ago), so the final group of people waiting for the game’s long anticipated release was Wii owners. It would appear that those waiting for Super Meat Boy’s WiiWare debut should start looking for the title elsewhere, because according to Team Meat it’s been cancelled....
The role-playing game genre seemingly bursting at the seams with titles that are set in either the fantasy genre or to a slightly lesser degree a science fiction setting. While there’s nothing wrong with a game that uses a Tolkienesque backdrop to tell its story many fans of the RPG genre are crying out for games with a different setting. Games like the Persona franchise have proved that a realistic modern-day setting can be just as engaging if not more so than a fantasy one....
The MCU has a lot of different directors, but they often end up having similar visual styles. There are very few dyed-in-the-wool Horror directors (save someone like Sam Raimi) and few MCU directors who stand out wildly in the MCU’s unified aesthetic. Game criticism (or any criticism for that matter) has always been fickle. Games with bad reviews are loved by general audiences, and games with bad reviews are loved (usually in an ironic way, but whatever). As such, it’s certainly not unheard of to see massive discrepancies between professional critic reviews and user scores. Generation V of Pokémon was widely-hated by the player base. Over time though, the love has grown and minds have changed. It’s now considered one of the best generations in franchise history, especially thanks to its great lore, storytelling, region, and Pokémon designs. Most of the time, GameFreak doesn’t show Generation V the love it deserves. This may be due in part to the wide criticism it received from fans. But, it seems like the developers of Sword & Shield decided to finally give it its day in the sun, featuring the most returning creatures of any generation and giving Galarian and Gigantamax forms to a few of them....
Red Dead Redemption II is a narrative masterpiece, and its world is one of the finest ever found in gaming. That said, some parts of it don’t make a lick of sense. Of course, this is a video game, so we don’t expect realism, and most of this list is meant purely for entertainment purposes. In a wonderfully intricate sequence of re-dos in the Emerson Hotel, the mission may appear to have stalled due to the “oops loop,” but Jay Karnes’ welcome return as FBI Agent Robert Gale (not to mention the more in-depth turn for Christopher Lloyd’s character) rejuvenates the search for the weapon to defeat the Witness....
Great things are remembered because they were great and never stopped being great. Maybe they never will stop being great. But some things are remembered because they were just good enough in a time where very little was good at all and good enough then is not good enough now. Rare used to be one of the greatest game developers on the planet, giving us such titles as the whimsical Banjo-Kazooie, the vulgar Conker’s Bad Fur Day, the hilariously broken but greatly fun Donkey Kong, the supposedly only second-best shooter of all time Perfect Dark… And one of the crown jewels of the Nintendo 64: GoldenEye 007....

Featuring wacky yet fun characters, a beautiful color palette, tight gameplay, and intuitive mechanics, there is so much depth to this series that people keep coming back to it. Buying a new console, or game fills me with such joy especially if it’s something I’ve been waiting forever for. Even though I’ve lived through many of these moments with games, with none greater than Christmas surprises, I haven’t had as many experiences with consoles. That’s like comparing an apple to an orange, or I guess to be more tech-savvy, a corded phone to an iPhone. Er, something like that.
