With a new Resident Evil movie on the horizon, the next game in the Resident Evil franchise can’t be far behind. Can it?

Today, we’re getting word that an announcement regarding another Resident Evil installment could be en route very soon.

Spanish gaming site, 3DJuegos reported the news today (as translated by Google):

Certainly exciting for any fans of the best zombie shooter-game out there. After the huge success of Resident Evil 5, and the fact that the new movie Resident Evil: Afterlife looks like it borrows major elements directly from RE 5, there’s no way Capcom, wont capitalize on the buzz.

“In fact, Capcom will have news about this soon.”

Capcom’s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, was on-site at the Tokyo Game Show today and discussed a potential follow:

So, what can we expect to see in this new game should it be announced? Clearly we will get the same compelling story with zombie shooting action, but will it take advantage of the Xbox 360 motion control, Kinect, or the PlayStation Move? Maybe it will use Sony’s new 3D tech? We don’t know. Yet.

“Given the great success led [us to] ‘Resident Evil 5,’ we want ‘Resident Evil 6’ [to hit] the market as soon as possible,”

And don’t forget about the 3DS. Inafune also explained:

What we can expect is an epic story, and lots of zombies to kill. Resident Evil is such a beloved, well established, franchise - with a potential movie tie-in, and the full backing of the Capcom team, there is little doubt that Resident Evil 6 will be a must have for every fan out there.

“As for ‘Resident Evil: Revelations,’ our company is very committed to Nintendo 3DS because we think it is a platform that will offer many opportunities for companies both developers and users,”

So what do you think they will be announcing? Something new? 3D? What would you like to see in a new game in the RE franchise?
