Recently, Game Rant posted about some of the first gameplay and details on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. One of two Resident Evil titles that Capcom is currently developing for the 3DS (along with Resident Evil: Revelations), Mercenaries 3D is an action-adventure title that adapts the Mercenaries mini-game found in Resident Evil’s console outings to Nintendo’s forthcoming handheld.

Now that the Nintendo 3DS launch details have been revealed, some new screens and a better quality trailer for the game have been made available. Below you’ll find a sharper-looking version of a trailer you may have seen before, in addition to some new screens depicting the kind of graphical detail and quality the game will exhibit on the 3DS.

The single friend code that applies to the 3DS itself rather than individual games should make online play with friends much easier, so get ready for co-op. Mercenaries was a lot of fun in Resident Evil 5, with the addition of co-op, so it just seems natural that Capcom would adapt that feature for their portable title.

Given the technology of the 3DS, The Mercenaries 3D should not be a let down, either cosmetically or substantively. It will be interesting to see how the 3D effects work out in the final product, though. A contextual 3D prompt that pops up tells players to escape grabs or grab items might be a fun implementation of the technology.

Counter to the fast-paced action that is embodied in The Mercenaries 3D, Revelations harkens back to the series’ older, more atmospheric version of survival-horror. Players looking for both action and horror might want to pick up both Resident Evil games for the 3DS, an idea that no doubt suits Capcom just fine.

Ranters, what do you think these new Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D screens? Are you more interested in this game, or in Resident Evil: Revelations?

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will be coming to the 3DS sometime in Summer 2011.
