Back in the heyday of the PlayStation 2 there were many games, like Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank, that gave gamers new spins on the platforming genre. However, one of them stood out in terms of innovation creative art style was the less popular Sly Cooper.
Sly Cooper’s three adventures brought gamers some of the most compelling platforming experiences, but always kept them guessing as to how they would progress through the next level. Coming early next month is an HD and 3D remastered collection of all three games under the banner of the The Sly Collection and we have a new trailer to better show off the trilogy.
Developed by Sucker Punch each of the three Sly Cooper games (Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves) saw the titular treasure-stealing raccoon teaming up with his brainy turtle friend Bentley and brawny hippo Murray. Along the way the trio evaded capture by Inspector Carmelita Fox.
The mixture of inventive gameplay mechanics and humorous writing made the Sly games some of the best released for the platform. Luckily, these new titles aren’t just retreads of the games but have received an HD facelift and are now capable of being broadcast on 3D televisions. As one of the earliest cell-shaded games, Sly should like pretty stunning in 3D.
Included with the collection is a set of four mini-games that reflect the various sensibilities of Sly Cooper’s four main characters. While these mini-games are playable with your standard dual shock controller, they have also been designed to function using the PlayStation Move.
With a game that can create such fond memories for gamers, there should be a large market for this new collection to capture. Simple, clean gameplay that doesn’t depend on anything more than stealth, action, and plenty of laughs is enough to prove that all you need is a little imagination to make a great game.
What are your thoughts on the Sly Cooper series of games? Do you have fond memories of them or if you have never played one would you be interested in checking them out now?
The Sly Collection releases November 9th for $39.99 on the PS3.
