A recent “leak” detailing upcoming characters in Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat 11 has begun circulating online and gaining quite a bit of popularity. This leak states that the second DLC run for the gory fighting game will introduce Fujin, Sheeva, Ash Williams from Evil Dead, Takeda, Havik, and Halloween’s Michael Myers as DLC characters. However, for so many reasons, this sounds too good to be true.
With Spawn releasing in just a few weeks’ time, it seems safe to say that we are entering a time period where Kombat Pack 2 rumors and leaks will become more frequent until an official confirmation. As such, it would be wise for fans of Mortal Kombat 11 to begin raising an eye at every leak that comes about, so here’s a breakdown of the most recent leak.
Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack 2
First off, it’s worth mentioning that there is no guarantee of a “Kombat Pack 2.” It has not been officially confirmed by NetherRealm Studios, nor has there been any real tease of its existence for Mortal Kombat 11. The closest thing to confirmation of it existence comes from a leak that pre-dated its release, which accurately detailed the entirety of the first Kombat Pack, but had three extra characters: Fujin, Sheeva, and Ash Williams. Beyond that, fans should keep their expectations in check, as while this current leak is based on the idea that the second pack would also be 6 characters, there’s really no promise of that.
Mortal Kombat 11 DLC: Fujin, Sheeva, Ash Williams
As far as leaks go, in conjunction with the aforementioned pre-release leak, Fujin and Sheeva are practically a shoe-in with Ash Williams to a lesser extent. Audio files for Fujin have been found in Mortal Kombat 11, Sheeva is already in the game, and despite his actor denying the fact, Ash Williams has appeared in a Google Ad. Barring any unforeseen circumstances with Ash Williams, these three characters are the closest to confirmed for the Kombat Pack 2. That said, this doesn’t mean much for the current leaked roster, as any fake leak would require these three characters to be consider viable by the MK11 fan base.
Mortal Kombat 11: Takeda
Simply put, there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that the son of Kenshi and apprentice of Scorpion, Takeda, will be in Mortal Kombat 11 DLC. That doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be, but there’s little reason he would be as well. He is mentioned in-game a few times, appears in a few backgrounds, and has apparently gotten engaged to Jacqui Briggs, but has ultimately been regulated to a background character.
Mortal Kombat 11: Havik
Havik is a in a strange place where, if players squint their eyes enough, he could have been teased. He appears in Joker’s Mortal Kombat 11 ending where the Clown Prince of Crime refers to Havik as a “bosom buddy.” Outside of this, though, there’s really nothing concerning Havik, and if we were to accept them as a potential tease for Havik, that would also mean the other members of the “League of Misunderstood Maniacs” could be considered for DLC, namely Mileena and Hsu Hao.
This itself sets a bad precedent for Havik’s role in Mortal Kombat 11, if not this whole DLC leak. Namely, despite clamoring fans, Mileena is never likely to be DLC, and it’s a known fact that Ed Boon doesn’t care for Hsu Hao, making his return even less likely. As such, Havik’s role here as DLC is guilty by association, even with this connection to MK11’s Joker, in terms of potential DLC.
Mortal Kombat 11: Michael Myers
The guest character aside from Ash Williams here is Michael Myers, which itself is immediately suspect as a result. This is because Mortal Kombat X had a plethora of horror movie and/or serial killers like Jason Vorhees, Leatherface, Alien, and Predator DLCs. In other words, it could be an attempt to mimic that pattern, and yes, it’s true that Ash Williams sort of fits into the overall picture here. It’s true that a new Halloween movie is releasing on October 16, 2020, and as Joker did with Birds of Prey, it would be a good cross promotion.
That said, it seems like the low hanging fruit that anyone could just make up with some solid guesswork. There’s really two ways to looking at Michael Myers’ inclusion in the next DLC run: either A.) this is pinpoint accurate and therefore suggests this DLC leak could have some truth to it or B.) it’s too “on the nose” and, without confirmation, is incredibly suspect. It really depends here on how much Mortal Kombat 11 fans want more horror crossovers.
Mortal Kombat DLC: Stryker?
Stryker is not listed as a DLC character here, but he’s worth bringing up as a character that many think has been teased, leaked, and has a ton of info concerning a role in Mortal Kombat 11. Stryker is not a popular character, per se, but his new revenant form shows a solid amount of potential for the character. Furthermore, there’s been hinting at his inclusion since before Mortal Kombat 11 released.
Many thought that Stryker was going to be included in the base game, where rumors that John Cena would voice him in MK11 were everywhere. Then, Ed Boon has seemingly teased the character’s addition as recently as December 2019. While this could have just been trolling, it would seem that Stryker has more going for his addition in Kombat Pack 2 than Havik or Takeda.
In short, this Kombat Pack 2 leak is incredibly suspect, has some decent guess work, but overall doesn’t seem too likely. That doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t legit, as strange leaks have come to fruition before, but the best thing Mortal Kombat 11 fans can do is wait and see what NetherRealm Studios has up its sleeves.
Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
