Metroid Dread Review
The latest game from MercurySteam Nintendo EPD developer, Metroid Dread is a fantastic action-adventure platforming game that takes the best elements of the Metroid games and blends them with classic 3D platforming elements.
Gameplay
As the official name suggests, Metroid Dread is set in the same universe as the Prime series and the 2D games, with a familiar story and cast of characters. However, this is the third game in the series to be made by MercurySteam, and it looks to be the best installment of the series yet. Metroid Dread‘s gameplay is a mix of classic 3D platforming and 2D Metroid exploration.
The game’s main story missions are linear, with you constantly following the main character around the castle. The game has a lot of secrets to be found, though, and it’s not unusual for you to spend quite a bit of time looking for them. This is where Metroid Dread‘s 2D style shines, with the Metroidvania style allowing you to unlock new areas and paths in the game’s massive main location.
The Metroid Dread story is a classic one for the series, but with a twist. In Metroid Dread, you try not to die while you’re alone in a cave system full of dangerous animals and machines that are out to get you. You move from area to area in the game, with Metroid Dread constantly throwing new areas at you.
There’s a lot of variety in the game, and although there are a few tedious places, Metroid Dread is fun to play. It also features one of the best boss battles in a Metroid game yet.
Metroid Dread is a fantastic action-adventure platformer that looks to bring new life and style into the classic series. Combining classic Metroid gameplay with a 3D platforming style, Metroid Dread offers a great experience that’s both well-made and fun to play. It also features some of the best boss battles in the series so far and an interesting twist on the series’ classic story.
Downloadable Content
Although there’s no additional official content in the game yet, Metroid Dread features a full-level editor for people to make their own levels and play them in the main game. It needs to be clarified whether this is a new feature supported by the game or if it’s something that was already built into the game.
Either way, there are a lot of possibilities for user-made content, and players willing to put in some time on the level editor will be able to create some awesome levels.
The “Try Before You Buy” Sale
