Modern Warfare 2 ranked play release window speculation

It’s been confirmed on the official Call of Duty Twitter as part of Season 2. This means ranked could be landing as early as February 15 2023. However, at the time of writing it’s not been confirmed if it’ll be available right from the get-go of Season 2, or in the Season 2 Reloaded mid-season update.

What we do know for certain is that, as part of the mode, it will include the following (which was confirmed by a Treyarch tweet):

  • Competitive Modes Ranked Skill Divisions Visible Skill Ratings Top 250 Leaderboard Competitive Rewards

How MW2 ranked play could work

While nothing has been confirmed, a recent leak suggests gamers will be earn specific points for Ranked mode. As wit every leak, this must be taken with a pinch of salt until we get the official word.

MW2’s ranked play could work similarly to Call of Duty Vanguard’s ranked system, which saw teams of 4-v-4 battle it out whilst abiding to CDL (Call of Duty League) rules. As each team progressed, they were awarded Skill Rating points which allowed them to progress through seven Skill Divisions.

It’s also worth noting that there was a Vanguard ranked mode beta event – which gives us some hope that a similar beta could well arrive for MW2’s ranked mode. If we hear word, we’ll let you know.

It is not known yet if there are certain entry parameters for players to take part in the upcoming Ranked Mode. EA’s Apex Legends, for example, requires players to be at least level 20 to take part.

In the meantime, for those looking to brush up their skills and get an idea of where they stand, you can battle it out in the CDL Moshpit, which arrived at the start of Season 01. Just like CDL, certain weapons and equipment are banned, which ups the challenge.

You can find out all about the CDL moshpit right here.

MW2 and Warzone 2 Season 2 will also see the return of Resurgence mode – which you can find out more about here.
