Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the latest Activision game to offer Twitch Drops, coming hot on the heels of a similar scheme in publisher stablemate Overwatch 2.

Players will be able to earn a number of cosmetic items they can use in Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer just by watching their favourite streamer on broadcasting platform Twitch.

The first of these drops is available now – let’s take a closer look.

MW2 Twitch Drops – when can I earn Twitch Drops?

For this first campaign, players are being asked to login to Twitch between October 28 through until November 6. That’s just over a week to try and earn your freebies.

MW2 Twitch Drops – what can I earn?

In this first campaign – there’s four items up for grabs. Players will unlock each one depending on how long they watch a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 livestream for.

  • Medallion 141 Weapon Charm – Unlocks at 15 minutes.Death’s Angel Calling Card and Emblem – Unlocks at 30 minutes.Something In My Teeth Weapon Sticker – Unlocks at 45 minutes.Watchdog 141 Weapon Blueprint – Unlocks at 60 minutes.

MW2 Twitch Drops – how do I earn them?

To earn your Modern Warfare 2 Twitch drops – you’ll need to go through a few steps. First off, of course, is to make sure you’re signed up with a Call of Duty account.

If you’ve done that, then of course you need to make sure you have a Twitch account, and that it’s linked up with your Call of Duty account. You can do that via this page here.

Bear in mind if you linked your account before October 10 you’ll have to link your account once more to be eligible, as the system was updated for the new game.

Once that’s all done – simply watch any Call of Duty streamer with Drops Enabled on Twitch.tv for the times described to earn your items.

MW2 Twitch Drops – how to claim?

Once you’ve racked up enough watch hours, head to your Drops Inventory page on Twitch. You should see your items with either a “Connect” or “Claim Now” button.

Click this button – and connect if you haven’t. The items should then appear in your game inventory within a few days after you’ve earned them.

Be warned that they might take some time before they appear in your account – but if you were logged into the game before you claimed them be sure to restart the game first.

MW2 Twitch Drops – does watching multiple streams increase drops?

No, you won’t earn Twitch drops any faster by watching multiple streams at once.

Can I be AFK to earn Twitch Drops?

Pretty much – you can join a stream and leave it running in the background if you want, and you should still earn progress.

If you want to be safe though, do keep periodically checking the progress of your drop. To do this on browser, click your profile picture and there should be a progress bar towards your next drop in the menu.

We also recommend – if you’re muting the stream to do something else – you do it on the browser tab and NOT the Twitch controls, just in case.
