For many Borderlands 3 fans, January was a bit of a shock. Players went from a plethora of events and DLC content in the shape of the Bloody Harvest, Maliwan Takedown, and Mad Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot to a content lull in January. That’s not to say there was a lack of content for the game, but there wasn’t content on the same level or quality for the month.
However, that’s likely to change soon. A new Borderlands Show is scheduled for February 11 where Live Lead Greame Timmins will be a special guest. The hosts have promised “big announcements” and “community updates,” with all signs pointing to that meaning Borderlands 3 DLC. It wouldn’t be the first time DLC was revealed on the show, after all, and would be a good time to reveal the next run of DLC if not a full Borderlands 3 2020 roadmap. Based on a potential pattern for the game, here’s what players should expect.
Borderlands 3 Events and Takedowns
Up first will likely be another event in a fashion similar to Bloody Harvest. There’s been an event or two since the last full story DLC, but nothing on the level of Borderlands 3’s Bloody Harvest. Going out on a limb would suggest that it’s possible a Valentine’s Day event. It wouldn’t be surprising with a reveal on February 11 for an event on the 14th to begin and run a few weeks like Bloody Harvest. Instead of Ghosts, however, there could be some play on Cupids (or the like) that give this an interesting twist alongside, of course, new Valentine’s loot.
Another Takedown is practically a given, and if the first DLC run was any indication, it should follow the pattern of seasonal event-Takedown-story DLC. That’s not to say it can’t be changed up, but it’s the only baseline for speculating upon at this time. As such, another endgame Borderlands 3 Takedown will likely be implemented, but instead of being against Maliwan, it’ll likely be against an altogether different faction to prevent them from appearing too similar. Instead of a corporation, perhaps the next will be based on psychos or wildlife, or perhaps Borderlands 3 will surprise fans will something even more unique in this regard.
A reasonable expectation is a full reveal of the in-game Borderlands 3 event with gameplay to follow shortly after the reveal but before the launch, and a Takedown to be mentioned or revealed on the roadmap. Specifically, the event will likely take the spotlight if it is indeed up first.
Borderlands 3 Story DLC
To cap off the Spring 2020 DLC run will most likely be a big Borderlands 3 story DLC that won’t be fully unveiled until time gets closer. There have been a few Borderlands 3 story DLC leaks that suggest players travel to an asteroid spaceport and face off against a group of mercenaries led by a former Vault Hunter, while also suggesting a new planet could be added to the game. Reportedly, this planet is called Vulcan and is a reasonable location to re-introduce Krieg the Psycho as an NPC. This information should be taken with a major grain of salt, however.
Based on the Borderlands 3 DLC release pattern and factoring in the skipping of January, April (or roundabouts) sounds like a reasonable time to expect this to drop. Hopefully, the release window for it and the rest of the bigger DLCs are revealed for the whole of 2020.
Borderlands 3 Battle Pass??
One big variable is the rumblings of a Battle Pass. There are a lot of reasons to believe that Borderland 3 would not get a Battle Pass, but at the same time, the very thought has caused ripples. It originated from a mostly reliable YouTuber claiming to have an inside source and snowballed its way into the community from there. Perhaps the biggest confirmation (or de-confirmation, to be precise) is whether or not there is indeed going to be a Battle Pass.
Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
